9:00-9:10 Language Arts: Writing: February Choice Board
Rather than beginning a new unit before the break and pivot point, we
are going to do some fun February-themed writing activities. Students
have a February Writing Choice Board in their package this week. Each
square on the choice board has a number in it (10-18). Each of the pages
following the choice board are numbered (also 10-18). You may want to
use the provided pages to complete the writing activities. Please note,
while not all activities need to be complete, the effort and number of
activities should balance out (i.e., completing one activity per class but
completing it thoughtfully and thoroughly is preferred to completing 4
activities poorly in the class time given).
9:10-10:05 Independent Work Time
Students have time to complete the activities on their choice board.
Students can select whichever activities they would like to do!
10:05-10:15 Writing Share

Important notes: The clues MUST be completed in the order they are

11:05-11:15 Math Mini-Lesson: Addition Word Problems
We will take another look at trying to solve math word problems. There
are many tricks I’ve seen to figuring out word problems. One is covering
the numbers and just reading the words, trying to comprehend what the
question is asking. Then filling in the numbers and solving the problem.
Remember, with word problems, one HAS to show their work by creating
a number sentence/equation and solving it.

Today we will be learning a couple new strategies to complete
subtraction with regrouping. Last time, we watched a video to introduce
us and we talked about pizza (ring any bells?). This new strategy is called
the “jump back method.” REMEMBER: Just because I am teaching a new
strategy doesn’t mean your child HAS to use it. We teach a variety of
strategies to reach the variety of learners we have in our class. If it
doesn’t click, that’s okay!
