- Reported extensively on the October 2017 North Bay fires, including comprehensive follow-up 
coverage about life after the most destructive wildfire in California history ravaged a community. 
Among the journalists awarded the 2 ​ 018 Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News​ for our reporting on the 
disaster.  
- Investigated the case of a missing Native American woman from Mendocino County and the 
skyrocketing rate of missing and murdered indigenous women in America. Analyzed decades of 
court records to detail a litany of prior domestic violence and abuse allegations that followed her 
accused kidnapper across Northern California, as well as those levied against his father.  
- Led coverage of a Portland family’s crash off a Northern California cliff, deemed intentional by 
authorities, which killed all six children and their adoptive mothers. The story made international 
headlines.   
- Spearheaded creation of a multimedia web template, empowering reporters to design their own 
interactive and visually stunning presentations for longform pieces. 
- Led regular workshops for newsroom members on social media tools, including Instagram, 
Instagram Stories and Snapchat. Helmed a presentation just before the October 2017 fires on 
Facebook Live — a breaking news tool our newsroom utilized the first night of the fires, which was 
praised by the Pulitzer committee in our win.

- Covered the pre-trial proceedings and trial of Nicholas Sheley, a serial murderer who killed six 
people in Illinois and is accused of two more killings in Missouri. His crimes and trial, which I 
live-tweeted, made national headlines.

gambling on gambling addicts in rural Illinois 
- First Place, Northern Illinois News Association:​ I​ n-depth look at a program at the Dixon 
Correctional Center that allows inmates to serve as end-of-life caregivers for fellow prisoners  
- Second Place, Illinois Associated Press Media Editors:​ D ​ ata-driven investigation into the 
militarization of police forces in rural Illinois, in the wake of the riots in Ferguson that followed the 
fatal shooting of an unarmed black man by a white police officer
