Hello, my name is Justin Butler. I grew up in Andover, Minnesota and graduated from Andover High School in 2017. I currently live in Madison, South Dakota where I attend Dakota State University. At DSU, I am pursuing a double major in elementary and special education. I will complete my four-year program in May 2022. I choose to attend DSU for their highly regarded teaching program. I chose elementary and special education because of my personal struggles in learning from an early age. Through hard work and dedication, I found that not only did I love to learn, I loved helping others to learn and watching them succeed. I felt very alone in my learning process. I convinced myself at a young age that if I put in the work, I would succeed. It was a special teacher that noticed my struggles, saw my strengths and identified my learning issue that changed my life. With her help and my perseverance, the world of learning opened, and I couldn’t get enough. As I succeed in school, I never forget how it started. When college becomes difficult, I remind myself of where I came from and remember that it will all be worth it when I can make the learning process a little less lonely and scary for the next generations of learners. It is my personal experience that drives me to place a high value on classroom environment. It is my mission to ensure that each student feels safe in my classroom. Every student is special and unique. I personally believe it is a teacher’s responsibility to motivate our students and help them learn to embrace themselves. As an educator, it’s my job to inspire, motivate, and lead by example to help my students elevate their knowledge to the highest levels. It is important to know each student one on one making it a priority to learn about them as an individual. This is vital because the education process prepares our students for an independent life in the “real” world through both what we teach and how we support them on a personal level. We are here to teach students to be the best version of themselves and I am honored to be going into a profession that makes a difference in the lives of children every day. I couldn’t be more excited to start my profession in teaching! As my time at DSU is coming to an end, I am more than confident that my education has helped prepare me to be an asset to any school district. Thank you for taking time to get to know me and considering me for an educator position in your school. Justin Butler
