Chemical depilation with thio-derivatives is the most simple, painless and most effective
in time. Its action is due to the reducing action of the SH group of thio-derivatives that,
in an alkaline carrier, has a straight melting capacity on the keratin of hair onto which it
is applied, thanks to the well known mechanism of reduction of the cystine.

MEDMULS MX is an emulsifying system for the production of high performance

products. MEDMULS MX allows simple formulations of O/W creams, stabilized in highly
alkaline environment, with either a high or a low amount of fatty phase, with a pleasant
form and good spreading characteristics, studied to be used on stratus corneous and its
appendages. The concentration is usually 5% to 10% of the finished product, according
to the quantity and the characteristics of the ingredients of the formulation. Emulsions
prepared by MEDMULS MX acquire their final viscosity after some 12 hours from
production and show excellent organoleptic properties and thermal resistance, perfect
stability of pH and assay of thioglycolate. Values that guarantee a safe and efficient use
of the depilatory cream for long time.

These formulations are simple examples of depilatory emulsions. We point out that
technical equipment, vacuum and temperature conditions, cooling procedure and the
use of raw materials of different quality, may affect the actual characteristics of the
product. Users shall verify the suitability of the formulation.

Depilatory Cream (with calcium thioglycolate)

Preparation method: heat phase A) and phase B) to 60°C. Add phase B) to phase A)
while mixing. When emulsification has occurred, add the perfume and the remaining
cold water. Add calcium thioglycolate. Slowly add sodium hydroxide to pH=12.8.
Homogenise accurately and discharge.

Preparation method: Heat phase A) and phase B) to 60°C. Add phase B) to phase A)
while mixing. When emulsification has occurred, add perfume and remaining cold
water. Homogenise the emulsion. Add thioglycolic acid. Slowly add calcium hydroxide
and sodium hydroxide to pH=12.8, being careful not to exceed 40°C. Homogenise
accurately and discharge.
