Contec AAC products can be divided in two main For the serviceability limit states, the requirements

- Reinforced elements (floor, roof and wall panels, 4.1.2 Analysis Assumptions

4.1.1 Analysis and Design
Fundamentals w In AAC reinforced elements, it is assumed that
AAC has no tensile strength.
Design approach mostly follows the
recommended practice described by RILEM w Roof and floor slab panels are considered as
International Committees 78-MCA and 51-ALC simply-supported (pinned) elements subjected
in ‘Autoclaved Aerated Concrete-Properties, to uniform distributed perpendicular-to-plane
Testing and Design’. However, safety and loads. In-plane load is not considered for slab
serviceability requirements specified by ACI 318- panels.
95 are also satisfied at every step. In addition,
recommendations given by ACI Committee 523 w The contribution of the existing compressive
and described in ACI 523.2/R-96 “Guide for reinforcement is taken into account.
Precast Cellular Concrete Floor, Roof and Wall
Units” are considered. w No shear reinforcement is considered for
reinforced panels (unreinforced web).
Although the strength design is based on ultimate
limit states, following guidelines of ACI 523.2/R- 4.1.3 Design Tables
96, the stresses under service loads are also
revised with the allowable stress theory specified This section includes design tables for AAC
by ACI 318-95 in Appendix A. reinforced, which are intended to help the
designer in selecting the appropriate panel.
The load bearing capacity is then defined as the
lesser value determined by two design
approaches (ultimate strength and allowable
stresses).

Design Guidelines Handbook
This section includes design tables for AAC
unreinforced masonry walls, which are intended
to help the designer obtain the maximum
horizontal or vertical allowable service load to be
applied on them.

These design tables are divided in two groups:

one of them is to obtain the allowable axial
surcharge loads, and the other group is to obtain
the maximum allowable lateral loads for different
axial surcharge loads. The design tables are
calculated for both, GP2/0.5 and GP4/0.7 classes,
and for different eccentricity of vertical loads and
various AAC block thickness.

A brief guide on the use of these design tables is

described next:
- Evaluate the uniformly distributed vertical and
horizontal loads acting in the masonry wall (of
a predetermined thickness).

- Refer to Table 4.3 with the wall thickness, wall

height and eccentricity of axial loads to obtain
the allowable axial surcharge load.
- Refer to Table 9.4 with the wall thickness, wall
height, value and eccentricity of axial loads to
obtain the maximum allowable lateral load.

- The service loads acting on the masonry wall

have to be equal or lower than the allowable
loads obtained from the design tables.
