Escalation League

Participation – this section covers entries and fees

Fees: No fee will be charged to enter the escalation league.

Entries: Only one army per participant may be entered into the escalation league

Rules – this section covers army selection, league structure, and overall game format.

Army Selection: Forces chosen from the most recent printing of the following codices are
legal.

Codex: Blood Angels Codex: Chaos Daemons

Codex: Chaos Space Marines Codex: Daemonhunters
Codex: Dark Eldar Codex: Eldar
Codex: Imperial Guard Codex: Necrons
Codex: Orks Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Space Wolves Codex: Tau Empire
Codex: Tyranids Codex: Witch Hunters

Forge world only selections are not allowed. For a complete list of the force organization choices
allowed at various points levels, please see the below chart.

Requirements (<750) Optional (<750) Requirements (750+) Optional (750+)

1 HQ 0-1 HQ 1 HQ 0-1 HQ
1 Troops 0-5 Troops 2 Troops 0-4 Troops
0-2 Elites 0-3 Elites
0-2 Heavy Support 0-3 Heavy Support
0-2 Fast Attack 0-3 Fast Attack

Thus in a 500 point game, 1 HQ and 1 Troops would be required, but a total of 2 HQ and 6
Troops would be permissible.

500 points is the start value of the league and will be used for weeks 1 and 2. Every two weeks
the points required will increase by 250. The league will end at the completion of week 10, after
the apocalypse game.

Unit selections added to your list may not be removed. Upgrades may be given to models, but
once they are given, they may not be removed or changed. Models may be added to units that are
under full strength, but may not later be removed. For example a space marine player takes a
seven man tactical squad and gives the sergeant a combi-flamer. At his next list iteration, he is
allowed to increase his squad size up to ten, add a powerfist to his sergeant, and select a rhino as
their dedicated transport. However, he is not allowed to remove the sergeant’s combi-flamer,
decrease his squad to five models, nor remove the squad from his list completely.

Furthermore, additional upgrades can be purchased to replace earlier upgrades, as long as they
replace the same piece of equipment and cost more than the previous upgrade. Thus someone
could replace a power sword with a power fist, but upgrading a smoke launcher to extra armour
wouldn’t be allowed (although one could just purchase the extra armour as an additional
upgrade).

Proxy and unpainted models are allowed in league games. However, this is discouraged since the
goal of the league is to increase the painted and fully constructed models available to the
participants.

League Structure: Points will be awarded as in the chart below on a biweekly basis.

1 point for on time list submission (please see league schedule)

2 points for army assembling
2 points for army painted
2 points per game played (maximum of 2 games reported)
1 point for Bonus completion

One Bonus will exist for every two weeks.

Weeks 1&2 Expert Navigator

Weeks 3&4 Objective Achieved
Weeks 5&6 Fluffy Bunny
Weeks 7&8 Ditch Digger
Weeks 9&10 DOOOOMMMM!!!!

Expert Navigator: Sign up on the forums. (www.40knation.com) Register as a member

of the Crimson Blades chapter. Post a message in the escalation league thread declaring that you
are joining the league, what army you are playing, and what you want to get out of the league.

Objective Achieved: Make and paint three objective markers. Objective markers need to
be on a 30 mm to 50 mm base. They need to be easily identifiable as objectives.

Fluffy Bunny: Write at least a one page (12 font, double spaced, pictures and charts
inclusive) background or story about your army. Post it on the forums.

Ditch Digger: Build and paint one piece of terrain. Size of the terrain is unimportant
(note that this means something like a lamppost is permissible, but so is a whole 6x4 terrain
board, but either way you get the same number of points). Donate the terrain feature to the
Crimson Castle.

DOOOOMMMM!!!!: Participate in the Apocalypse battle at the end of the league. Sides
will be chosen at the battle. Each player should bring their 1500 points list.

Both games logged in a single week may not be against the same opponent. Lists must be
submitted on the forums according to the league schedule.

After the apocalypse game the league will be officially over. The player with the most points will
be declared the winner. In the event of a tie, the tie breakers will be in the following order, most
games won, most models painted, most models assembled. If an unlikely but possible tie still
exists, one final game will be played between the tied players using the NOVA open 2010 rules
for the Annihilation mission. Please see http://novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Open-
Final-Missions-40k.pdf for a complete rules packet.

Game Overview: Games will be played at the point level appropriate to the current week
number in the league. Mission and deployment will be rolled from the standard rulebook
missions, or agreed upon by the players before hand. For games played on 4x4 tables, the Seize
Ground mission will be played with D3 objectives instead of D3+2 objectives with objectives
needing to be placed a minimum of 6” from the board edge and 12” from other objectives.
Terrain set-up should be performed by both players, with an agreement being reached upon
terrain placement and type before the mission and deployment is rolled. The game needs to be
reported upon the forum, if either player wishes it to count towards their games played total for
the week. If a game is not reported by both players, then a confirmation must be obtained from
the non-reporting player in order for the game to count. Note that this means a player could
feasibly play more than two league games, but decide to only report their two wins. This may
become important if a tie occurs at the end of the league.

Requirements – this section covers painting, assembly, and game play requirements

Painting Requirements: In order for a model to be considered painted, it requires a three

color minimum. Attempts to circumvent the ultimate goal of painting (i.e. spraying a model
black, dipping the top half in one color, and the bottom half in a third color) will cause laughing
and derision and will not be considered painted models. Importantly, painted models are not
required for play in this league, and this requirement is only in force if you want to earn the
points for having a fully painted army.

Assembly Requirements: For a model to be assembled, it must be What You See is What
You Get. This means that any upgrades capable of being modeled must be modeled, such as a
meltagun on a space marine, but that standard equipment is assumed, such as the frag grenades
on that same space marine. Alternate weapons are allowed, as long as it is extremely clear what
the weapon is supposed to be. For example a flamer counting as a meltagun is out of the
question. Note that once again, this is only necessary for those wanting to receive the assembly
points. But, to be clear, if a proxy is used, it is on the player using the proxy to make it
abundantly clear what and how something is being proxied.

Game Play Requirements: You are not required to play games in this league. All rules are
available from the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. Games-Workshop FAQs are in effect. For any
situations not directly covered by these sources, either consult the INAT FAQ
(http://www.dakkadakka.com/s/up/INATFAQv4.2.pdf) or simply dice off. Importantly, if your
opponent either lacks their codex at the time of the game and a rules argument arises, then try to
obtain the codex. However, if it cannot be obtained all rulings are decided against the person
without their codex available. Lists must be available to your opponent, and must be the same as
the posted list in the forum.
