KINGSTON — Residents from
Kingston to Montreal and as far
south as Rhode Island could see
dogfights in the skies Thursday,
but it’ll just be a training exercise.
North American Aerospace Defence
Command (Norad) is conducting
the high-speed exercise in airspace
between eastern Ontario in the
west, Montreal in the east and
south as far as Providence, R.I.,
and Plymouth, Mass. The planes
— two jets chasing a third, smaller
jet — will be dispatched from CFB

wants people to be aware of the
exercise, “so if (they) do see them
flying, they won’t be scared,” said
Norad’s Stacey Knott.
LOYAL PIT BULL SHOT

in medical distress, but the caller
couldn’t get near the man because
of the man’s dog. When officers
tried to go up the stairs to reach
the man, his large dog stood at
the top of the stairs and wouldn’t
let them pass. The man didn’t
respond when police and paramed-
ics called to him. An officer walked
up two steps and the dog “aggres-
sively advanced.” Fearing the dog
would attack, the officer shot it.
Paramedics were then able to help
the man. He was taken to hospital.
BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY
A British soldier reportedly
served on the front lines in
Afghanistan while seven months
pregnant. Pte. Kayla Donnelly, 21,
thought the changes to her body
and weight gain were due to the
stress of war, Britain’s The Sun
newspaper reported. She was
serving with the army in Helmand
province — a Taliban stronghold
where much of the fighting between
NATO forces and insurgents has
been taking place — from March
to September, the newspaper said.
Donnelly gave birth to her son, Josh,
two weeks after returning home.
She collapsed with cramps by a pool
and realized she was having a baby
only when contractions began.
