PART I: Diagrams
Circuit Diagram – You will design a circuit diagram on a piece of A4
paper. The diagram will show your burglar alarm is wired to work
effectively as a parallel circuit. This diagram will use color and schematic
diagram symbols to indicate accurate wiring.

Switch Diagrams (3) – You will create three switch diagrams, one for
each type of switch you are creating. Your sketches should show which
materials being used, along with the appropriate wiring. Label your
sketches as needed.

Burglar Alarm Diagram (Net Diagram) – Sketch out how the wiring
of your burglar alarm is going to fit into the box (opened) on a piece of A3
paper. Your sketch will show the parallel circuit as it will be laid
throughout the house, as well as the placement of the switches, buzzer,
and any other parts of the circuit. This sketch should reflect exactly as it
will look in your box.

Part II: Burglar Alarm

Use a shoebox to create a building. Your building can have any kind of
theme you’d like (a home, a school, a bank, ect), try to think of a building
that would actually use a burglar alarm. When your wiring is finished, you
can decorate your “building” to look like it’s theme. In the shoebox you
will make “openings” (doors, windows, ect) that will activate the alarm
(close the circuit) when opened (as if a burglar were trying to break in).

Using wires, a buzzer, a single AA battery and up to 5 switches (at least 3

different types), wire the building you made for a burglar alarm. Use the
diagrams you created in part I to place the wires throughout your building.
When each “opening” is opened, the circuit should close and cause the
alarm to buzz. You must secure your connections and test and retest your
switches so that the alarm works every time.
