Zizia.
A tincture is made of the entire fresh plant, Thaspium aureum, Nutt. (Zizia
aurea, Koch.).
Generalities :- º Spasmodic movements of muscles of face and limbs. º
Convulsions ; and swooning. º Increase of strength, with inclination for
muscular exertion. º Pains, agg. movement, noise, light or contact.
Clinical :- º Hysteria. º Chorea, especially during sleep, fidgety legs
(Tarent.). º Epilepsy.

Mind :- º Exhilaration ; then depression ; of all faculties, then sleepiness. º

Laughing and weeping alternately. º Depression, with irritability and
indifference ; D., with disgust of life ; D., then exhilaration and desire for
conversation. º Desire to move about, with apparent increase of strength, but
slight exercise causes fatigue. º Dreamy, imaginative mood.
Clinical :- º Hypochondriasis, desire to commit suicide.
Head :- º Pain and lightness. º Affection of brain and nervous system. º
Tightness. º Rush of blood to H. and face, with feeling of fulness. º
Giddiness. º Tightness in forehead and occiput. º Pressure upon top of brain.
º Pain in right temple, with nausea ; P. in left side, agg. light or noise ; in
occiput, extending to muscles of neck.
Clinical :- º Neuralgia of the head and face.
Eyes :- º Red. º Sensitive to light. º Lachrymation. º Lids agglutinated in
morning by a yellowish muco-purulent secretion. º Stye on right lid. º
Smarting of lids. º Shooting through orbits. º Sharp pain in right orbit, agg.
moving balls, stooping or stepping.
Nose and Face :- º Obstruction of right nostril, with pain on touch and
soreness. º Catarrhal, asthmatic and pleuritic maladies. º Face pale and
puffy. º One cheek red, the other pale. º Boring in cheek-bones. º Pain in
jaws.
Mouth and Throat :- º Tongue coated white ; coated yellow, and
respiration oppressed ; T. red and sensitive to cold and warm drinks. º
Mouth dry. º Taste bitter. º Inflammation of pharynx. º Tonsils and palate
red and throat sore. º Increased mucus in throat.

Stomach :- º Craving for acids and stimulants. º Appetite diminished ; lost. º

Thirst. º Nausea. º Vomiting ; acid and bilious. º Pressure causing nausea
and faintness. º Sensitive to touch.
Sexual Organs :- º Excitement of male. º Emission at night. º Power
enhanced. º Uterine affections characterized by vascular and nervous
excitement. º Leucorrhœa acid ; bland and profuse. º Menses profuse for one
day, then acrid leucorrhœa ; M. suppressed suddenly.
Clinical :- º Intermittent neuralgia of left ovary.
Respiratory Organs :- º Roughness in upper part of larynx on inspiring or
coughing. º Rawness of larynx from coughing, with smarting. º Trachea
sensitive to touch. º Tight cough from inspiring deeply ; from dryness of
larynx. º Dry cough, with shooting in chest ; D., short, with stitches in right
side and sense of suffocation ; D., hard, short, with stitches in right side
from beneath sixth rib to two inches below xiphoid cartilage. º Respiration
asthmatic, with inability to recline ; R. oppressed and accelerated.
Clinical :- º Dry cough, with stitches in the chest, dyspnœa, aggravation
in evening and night.

Chest :- º Stitches, with feverish symptoms ; S. from front part to scapula ;

pleuritic, in right side, agg. coughing or attempting to take a long breath. º
Pain in intercostal muscles on pressure ; sharp, from sides to scapulæ. º
Bruised feeling in muscles.
Back and Extremities :- º Pain under right scapula ; in loins, agg.
movement ; smarting burning, in small of back. º Pricking in right arm, with
diminished sensibility. º Lameness of muscles of upper arms. º Dragging in
hips. º Legs tired after slightest exertion.
Skin :- º Whole body pale ; and puffy. º Face and ankles œdematous. º
Itching pimples on forehead, wrists and legs. º Sensitive to touch.
Sleep :- º Drowsiness ; with lassitude. º Sleep prevented by pain. º
Twitching in sleep. º Talking in sleep. º Disturbed by unpleasant dreams.
Fever :- º Chilliness, with twitchings of muscles of face and upper limbs,
then fever ; C. and heat alternating with faintness, nausea, pain in right
temple, redness of eyeballs, dry and red tongue and thirst for cold water ; C.
of hands and feet, with flushed cheeks, hot head, visible pulsations of
carotid and temporal arteries, drowsiness and irritability. º Fever, with
headache, pain in back and thirst. º Heat in cheeks, with redness ; in cheeks,
with sense of fulness. º Hot flushes in face and head, then sweat.
