36 Madison Avenue Drew’s campus is located only 30 miles from Midtown Manhattan in
Madison, NJ 07940 beautiful suburban Madison, New Jersey.

Student Accommodation Capacity: 400 The campus is a short 10 minute walk to downtown Madison and the
train station.

Airports closest to Drew are JFK in New York and Newark Liberty
International Airport.

CAMPUS

Drew has been nicknamed the “University in the Forest” because of


its position in wooded 186 acres surrounded by suburban Madison,
NJ and about an hour from New York City.

Downtown Madison hosts an array of shops, cafes, restaurants


easily accessible for walkers. All rooms are en suite with a desk, ar-
moire, set of drawers, and a bed.

They are conveniently located on campus and easily accessible


to classrooms, dining facilities, and other campus amenities

ACCOMMODATION

Students will stay in one of the following en suite accommodations.

McClendon Hall

Each suite features a bathroom, and a four bed to one bath ratio with a sink in each room.

CENTER FACILITIES
Classrooms

Classroom lessons are held on campus in academic buildings.

Cafeteria

Dining at Drew is located in University Commons Dining and


students can enjoy a wide variety of menu selections ranging
from vegetarian to meat entrées, fruits and desserts in a buf-
fet style setting.
Special arrangements are available for both medical and reli-
gious dietary restrictions.

Laundry Facilities

Washers and dryers are located in each Residence Hall and are
coin-operated. Detergent and dryer sheets will not be pro-
vided, but can be purchased on campus in the Bookstore at
University Commons.

Lounges

A big-screen television, billiards, and table tennis are located


in the lounges of your Residence Hall to use at your leisure
until curfew.

Computers

Group participants will have scheduled access to a computer


lab for purposes of sending and receiving e-mail, skyping,
typing and printing.

ATM Machines

Three (3) Automated Teller Machines are located throughout


Rider’s Campus *Service charges may apply (part of the MAES-
TRO, CIRRUS network)

First Aid

First Aid is available for all participants upon request.

Commissary

The Bookstore, located in the University Commons, is avail-


able from 9 a.m. – 5p.m. Monday to Friday for students to
purchase chips, candy, soda, bottled water, and international
calling cards among other items.

MEAL PLAN

Students eat buffet style in the Commons Dining Hall. Meals are varied, and it is possible to accommodate dietary and
religious restrictions.

BREAKFAST: Breakfast includes hot buffet variety, assorted cereals, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice.

LUNCH: Lunch includes hot and cold buffet variety, sandwich options, a salad bar, a dessert bar, and soda and juice.

DINNER: Dinner includes several hot and cold buffet varieties, a salad bar, a dessert bar, coffee, tea, juice, and soda.

A packed lunch is normally provided for full day excursions.

LIVING ON CAMPUS

Laundry Facilities

Washers and dryers are located in each Residence Hall and are US coin-operated. Detergent and dryer sheets will not
be provided, but can be purchased on campus in the Bookstore at University Commons.

Linens

Participants will each be given a set of linens which include the following and will be changed weekly:
2 Flat Sheets
1 Blanket
1 Washcloth
1 Pillow and case
2 Bath Towels

Room Cleaning

All bathrooms will be cleaned weekly. Trash pick-up will be provided daily for each guestroom. Common areas will be
cleaned daily.

Vending Machines

Bottled sodas, water and snacks may be purchased through the vending machines located on site. (These machines
accept US $1.00 bills and quarters only)

Swimming Pool

The Swimming pool is available during scheduled hours. Pool towels are not provided. Each student is recommended to
bring a towel for the swimming pool. Bath towels are not permitted to leave the Drew guestrooms. Missing towels will
incur a $10.00 fine.

Safety Deposit Box

A safety deposit box is available on campus.

Fire

Read the rules displayed in the dorms very carefully and note the location of the emergency exit.

Damages

Damages made must be paid for. All rooms and common areas are regularly checked for damages, and individuals
who cause damage to any property on the site will be held liable for the cost of repairs. Refundable deposits of $25
are collected from all students for damages on arrival at the site. This money will be returned at the end of the stay
provided there are no damages to the site. The cost of damage in communal areas that is not caused by a particular
student or groups of students will be equally divided among all students residing in that particular area. A $25 fee is
charged for every lost key.

Rules and Regulations

Students must obey all written and verbal rules from Study Tours Counselors. All Drew University’s rules and American
Laws must be followed and will be enforced. Curfew for all participants will be Midnight (12:00 a.m.) unless otherwise
stated. Counselors will report violations and make recommendations of consequences to the Open Hearts Site Coordi-
nator.

International Calls

International calls require the use of an international calling card or the use of 9-1-800-COLLECT. To obtain an outside
line for an international call you must first dial 9, then follow the directions on the back of your international calling
card (the code to dial outside the United States is 011). Each site also has computers available for students to call via
Skype. Skype calls are the cheapest method of international calling.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

If a student is sick or there is a medical emergency, please immediately seek medical care. Students should contact
their group leader. If necessary, students will be taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital or Overlook Hospital in Sum-
mit, NJ which will need to be paid for by the student (including transportation). Students are usually taken to the emer-
gency room for care.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

The NJ Transit RR is less than ten minutes to walk from Drew. This train goes directly into Penn Station (at 34th and 7th
Ave.) from the Madison stop.

There is a bus line that goes from Drew to Livingston Mall. The schedule is available on the University website. There is
no direct bus service from New York to Drew.
