Happy New Year from MECA
LOS PASTORES A BÉLEN

This December MECA, in collaboration with

Grupo de Teatro Indigo, presented Los
Pastores A Belen, a satirical Christmas
play in Spanish with English subtitles
that follows the characters of Gila and
Juan as they try to reach Bethlehem
for the birth of Jesus on orders from
the angel Gabriel. Guided by the
beautiful Star of Bethlehem, they set
on the path but along the way
encounter the evil Lucifer who sets
them up in a war of traps to prevent
them from reaching their destination.

Did you know about the tax deduction you can claim even if you don't itemize?
The CARES Act, passed this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, includes an
additional, "above-the-line" deduction for charitable gifts made in cash of up to $300 (up to
$600 if you file jointly).

Even if you're not itemizing on your 2020 taxes, you can claim this deduction.
This provision was included to encourage charitable giving right now, when it's urgently needed
throughout our community. So please, take advantage of this special opportunity to deliver vital
assistance to MECA's students, families, and mission.

FREE Visual Art and Fitness Workshops

Fitness and art come together in this AARP Houston and

MECA virtual series titled "Silver Stars: Mondays with MECA."

This 5-part event includes a hybrid instruction of Sit and Be Fit

- a low impact but high-intensity workout that blends dance
and yoga combined with a visual art activity. The 50-minute
sessions will be in English and curated, especially for AARP
members.
The first 25 minutes of each class will begin with Sit and be Fit, which caters to the individual
participant's needs. The exercises blend dance and yoga techniques and allow for modification
as needed. This class requires that you have access to a comfortable and stable chair and
drinking water.

Each session's second 25 minutes will include a visual art activity (that varies per session).
Each activity will serve as a beginning level introduction to art class that includes warm-up
exercises to improve hand to eye coordination and dexterity. This class requires that the
participants have access to copy paper/or sketch pad and a pencil.

The remaining four sessions will be hosted on the following dates:

Monday, January 11, 2021, – 11:00 AM CST

Monday, January 25, 2021, – 11:00 AM CST
Monday, February 8, 2021, – 11:00 AM CST

*Link will be provided after registration. Register HERE or click the AARP logo above.
