Drain the Swamp!

During the 2016 campaign, “drain the swamp” and “lock her up” were a
constant refrain heard at almost all Trump rallies. It was like flipping on
a switch. Whenever a speaker uttered the words, the crowds would
scream the words at fever pitch, feeling “holier than thou.”
Then Trump would appear on stage, looking like the Deliverer who was
going to clean up Washington and put Hillary behind bars. Evangelicals
envisioned a cleansing of the American government and the end of
corruption in politics. Closet bigots celebrated what they sensed would
be the second coming of Jim Crow. NRA members grabbed their assault
weapons, believing this was their moment to take America back.
Underachievers felt validated by an even bigger underachiever who
could become president. The base was taking shape.
In reality, as America and the world later witnessed, Trump was a wolf
in sheep’s clothing, an incompetent and uncaring sociopath, a
pathological liar, a white supremacist, a sexual abuser, and a hypocrite.
Today, the only one in danger of being locked up is Trump himself. In
23 more days, he will be closer than Clinton to being locked up. While
he can’t be indicted on any charges as a sitting president, he can later.
He is currently facing several lawsuits regarding his business practices
in New York, and is being investigated for possible insurance fraud,
criminal tax evasion, grand larceny, and scheming to defraud, which
could entail incarceration.
Now, what about that swamp? Trump is draining the swamp he created
by using, abusing, and misusing friends and allies beholden to him. He
is pardoning criminals who have been convicted and serving time or
stand to be convicted, for lying to the FBI, lying to Congress, evading
taxes, murdering 17 unarmed Iraqi men, women, and a 9-year old child,
extorting money for political appointments, tampering with witnesses,
securities fraud, violating campaign finance laws, and obstructing
justice. All of these men are part of Trump’s crime syndicate.
This president will leave no member of his crime family behind,
especially anyone who lied to federal officials to protect him or might tell
the truth later to convict him. He has chosen to bypass the Department
of Justice on reviewing 60 of the 65 pardons and commutations he has
issued.
Trump is draining his swamp by pardoning the largest criminal element
ever connected to a presidential administration. He makes Nixon’s gang
of crooks, including his attorney general, look more like Boy Scouts.
