NO LATINAS IN THE BIDEN CABINET?

What’s up with the Biden-Harris Transition Team? As yet, no Latinas

have been nominated for Cabinet or sub-Cabinet positions. Are Latinas
even on the radar screen? Ten women have been nominated thus far,
including two Blacks and a Native American, but not one Latina.
We need to make some noise! Que pasa? Black leaders of seven
nationally prominent organizations have met with Biden to call for more
Blacks in Cabinet and sub-Cabinet positions, and to demand greater
investments in the Black community.
Recently, 1,000 Black women involved in politics, business, sports,
entertainment, and the faith community signed an open letter to Biden
and Harris, calling on Biden to appoint more Black women to Cabinet
positions. Por Dios! Asi se hace.
The pressure from leaders of Black organizations, the Congressional
Black Caucus and 1,000 Black women, was justified. Why? BVM, Black
Votes Matter. Blacks are the third largest ethnic/racial population group
and the third largest ethnic/racial voting group in America. Being third
doesn’t bother Blacks. They’re going to be cashing in on their power.
So who is the second largest population group and the second largest
voting group in America? Latinos! Pero que sirve si el pueblo no se oye
y el poder no se siente? Frankly, it’s worse than that. Latinos are not
getting the respect we deserve either. Why? There are lots of reasons
possibly, but one for sure is that we “humbly ask for” and never
“respectfully demand” anything.
Two Asian women have been named to Cabinet-rank positions, trade
representative and office of budget and management. An Asian male
was named surgeon general. In addition, leaders want two Cabinet
secretary positions.
Only one Latina, Julie Rodriguez, has been appointed to a White House
position (Director, Intergovernmental Affairs).
We need to let the Biden-Harris people know that we’re not settling for
leftovers. They need to know what Latinas bring to the table. Latinas
comprise the majority of 32 million eligible Latino voters. They control a
$2.6 trillion Latino GDP, which accounts for 24% of the total U.S. GDP
growth in 2020, and is the third fastest growing GDP in the world. They
dominate the Latino business community that is growing at a rate three
times faster than Black, white, or Asian businesses, male or female.
More Latinas are registered to vote than men, turn out to vote more than
men, and more Latinas voted for Biden-Harris than men.
This is what they’re overlooking, due to either ignorance, indifference,
or both. Whatever the cause, we shouldn’t and must not stand for it.
Two Latino groups, one including seven organizations and one
consisting of 40+ organizations, have requested meetings with Biden
and Harris. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has stepped up on
behalf of certain individuals, but not for Latinas specifically. Surely there
are 1,000 Latinas willing to sign on the dotted line to correct this
disparate treatment. Two Latino men have been nominated to date.
Latinas must be included in the Cabinet. Punto!
