Ferrum Phosphoricum.
The pure Phosphate of Iron is triturated for use.
Generalities :- º Malaise all the evening. º Weariness in morning on
waking ; at 1 P.M. (not having eaten since breakfast), with desire for brandy.
Mind :- º Hasty, intolerant feeling in afternoon. º Impetuous feeling in
evening, yet obstacles cause hindrance and annoyance and trifles seem like
mountains, intolerant of hindrance and annoyance. º Annoyed at the
conversation of fellow-passengers in street-car, agg. when earnest or
excited, amel. afternoon. º Shrinking and timid at hearing cross words about
an absent stranger. º Soothing, pleasant effect from walking in a quiet part of
the city after dark, ceasing on returning to the bustle of the central streets. º
Inertia, indifference to ordinary matters, craving for brandy without real
muscular debility. º Loss of courage and hope early in evening, amel. sleep.
Head :- º Feeling as from insufficient sleep, fell asleep at my table at 4.30
P.M. º Pain all day, agg. right side, agg. first thinking of it ; P. from right
brow to right ear when reading ; in right side. º Sharp twinges of pain over
whole left side at 11 P.M. ; from right vertex to right supraorbital foramen in
afternoon. º Aching dullness extending from vertex towards orbits and sides
of head as a pressure, agg. holding head down when writing, amel. when
walking, but when walking in the street more in occiput and when rising,
walking, etc., most in vertex, as the force of the circulation most impinges, it
always seems in subcutaneous cavities. º Pain in posterior part of base of
skull in afternoon at every concussion (as of coughing or even sudden and
hard smacking of lips).
Clinical :- º Symptoms of meningitis of the brain, suffused eyes, full,
soft pulse, with drowsiness and heaviness. º Violent headache, throbbing,
followed and amel. and by nosebleed. º Violent headaches during
menstruation ; the head is extremely sensitive to pain (Compare Fer.
met.).
Eyes and Ears :- º Smarting in edges of right lids. º Neuralgia at left inner
brow and down left side of nose, in evening when riding. º Sharp aching at
outer edge of left orbit, as if in bone at 7.30 P.M., on right side at 8.30. º
Sticking in right ear ; on going to bed, extending as a headache above
periosteum of that side.
Nose and Face :- º Lips blue after a tepid sponge bath. º Grumbling in left
lower jaw, near filled molar. º Smarting in right anterior nasal passage ; right
posterior nasal passage agg. inspiration, amel. expiration.
Mouth and Throat :- º Increase of the usual light coat on tongue, with
yellowish tint increasing towards the base. º Liberation of pharyngeal,
tracheal and nasal mucus. º Working down of phlegm behind velum palati,
also loosening from below.
Clinical :- º Sore throat, catarrhal affections of the Eustachian tube and
ears, especially in singers.
Abdomen :- º Emission of fetid flatus when standing leaning over the table,
continuing when undressing. º Pain in transverse colon ; at 3 P.M. ; at
breakfast, when bending forward, repeated when standing, using arms
moderately towards the left. º Threatening of diarrhœa from colon to rectum.
Stool and Urinary and Sexual Organs :- º Stool soft, yellow, easy. º Urine
pale, copious in cool weather ; in warm weather, and limpid, less copious
and darker in cooler weather ; when pale there were several crystalline
forms the principal being hexagonal plates answering to cystin, and tables
answering to uric acid and chloride of sodium.
Clinical :- º Hæmorrhoids. º Cholera infantum, with red face, full, soft
pulse ; stools watery or even bloody, after checked perspiration. º
Hæmorrhage from the bladder. º Irritable or inflamed bladder, with
frequent urging. º Retention of urine, with fever, in children. º Ovarian
neuralgia. º Dysmenorrhœa, with sacral pains, headache, frequent urging
to urinate, pain in left ovary.
Neck and Back :- º Pain in neck in morning. º Pain in left lower lumbar
region when walking bent forward ; in sacro-iliac symphysis at 1 P.M. on
walking in the street after standing, amel. pressure. º The habitual aching in
dorsal spine (agg. standing or sitting, amel. walking or leaning back against
chair) is increased, also amel. change of position. º Tired feeling in right
lumbar region in evening when sitting in church.
Extremities :- º Rheumatic feeling in right wrist after writing, extending
downward in dorsal tendons, agg. rest, then the pain ebbs and flows, when
writing it sometimes extends up forearm, agg. dorsal and ulnar aspects, on
rising felt in little finger to first phalanx, amel. warmth and wrapping.
Clinical :- º In articular rheumatism, especially of the shoulder, the
pains extend to the upper part of the chest ; and of the hands, which are
swollen and painful, or of the knee, with severe pain, or of the ankle, with
shooting pain.
Sleep and Fever :- º Drowsiness at 4.30 P.M., felt much in eyes, extending
up into head, necessity to take a nap. º Sensitiveness to cool air ; at noon ; all
the evening. º Dry heat of palms ; when sitting, and of face ; D. heat of face,
hands, throat and upper chest at 6 P.M.
Clinical :- º There may be heat, with quick, soft pulse, thirst and sweat,
which does not relieve the patient (Fer.).
