PHILIPPINE LITERATURE AS A TOOL TO PROMOTE FAMILY TIES AND

TRADITION

The concept of family is one of the most important sources of

Philippine culture. Filipinos get the strength and motivation from their loved ones, and
this is presented in the different stories they create.

They have very close family ties. Parents still connect with their children even
if they are already adults. This strengthens and ensures that traditions are continued
and passed onto the next generations. The ups and downs of families are resolved in
stories, making the readers experience the pains of a broken family, but, at the same
time, giving hope that values are preserved, and individual can find “family” in any
relationship built.

Philippine literature is rich with different concepts of what a family is. It has
become a family photo album, with pictures of happy and sad children, strong and harsh
fathers, and loving and gone mothers, all contained in the memory of the Filipino.
