A cursed child lies in her bed; her dreams are filled with nightmares and trickery, the source of which
comes from the Feywild. She is Nadia Van Harren, the daughter of a minor noble who has been
possessed by a foul spirit and help is required to restore this innocent child to her former health.

Deidre Farlein, a good-natured cleric, has agreed to perform a complex ritual of cleansing, to siphon off
the bad energies inhabiting the child back into the Feywild. She has contracted a group of adventurers
to stand guard whilst the ritual is performed. She asks for their protection, to ensure that the ritual
remains undisturbed - because once a portal to that realm is open, something might come through.

In the poor child’s bedroom, the worried parents stand and fret whilst Deidre starts to chant and
concentrate. A bright golden portal appears and pulses with raw energy; through it hallucinatory images
of beautiful woodlands and shimmering mountains appear. Danger is soon to come.

When the group is ready, roll a D20 to select an encounter from the table below. This will occur during
the ritual cleansing. Only one encounter will occur at any given time. Resolving the encounter provides
exorcism points (EP). Continue rolling encounters until 30 EPs have been accumulated, then the ritual is
complete, but a final situation (detailed below) will occur.

(Please see the next page for encounter table)

When 30 Eps are accumulated, and all hostile creatures dispatched, the portal flickers and closes. After a
moment of silence, the portal suddenly opens to a dark, twisted realm and Greweinn the Cracked enters
the room. She is a Night Hag who has laid claim to Nadia’s soul, infecting her with nightmare energy.
Greweinn does have her Heartstone with her, allowing her to escape if she is nearly defeated.

If the party has lower level players, feel free to adjust the hag’s statistics, lower her AC to 14 and reduce
her health, or remove a resistance or two.

Some effects and monsters can try to harm Deidre or Nadia. For this encounter, Deidre has AC15 and 50
hit points, while Nadia has AC10 and 4 hit points. Due to her Feywild corruption, the foes will leave
Nadia alone, yet if she or Deidre is slain, the fight is lost. In each of her turns, Deidre will only use one
bonus action if able – she will try to heal a nearby ally for 1d8+4 hit points.
Once the hag is dealt with, Nadia will awaken from her nightmarish slumber. Her parents, along with
Deidre, will be very grateful, offering their local influence and a purse containing 500gp as a reward.

However, they will have earned the enmity of Greweinn the Cracked, who will plot her revenge
carefully.
