PRELIMINARY

A. Background

English is an international language that is used as a language of communication between

all nations and countries around the world. The ability to speak English is one of the most
important abilities for students because English has become a universal language used in the
world of technology, education, politics, commerce, and is the most frequently used
communication tool in the world.
English is a Germanic language that was first spoken in England in the
Early Middle Ages and is currently the most commonly spoken language worldwide. English is
spoken as the first language by the majority of the population in various countries, including the
United Kingdom, Ireland, United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a
number of Caribbean countries; as well as being the official language of nearly 60 sovereign
countries. English is the third most spoken native language worldwide, after Chinese and
Spanish. English is also used as a second language and an official language by the European
Union, Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations, as well as a variety of other
organizations. The ability to speak English is one of the
most important abilities for students. English is one of the subjects in the UN (National

CHAPTER II

THEORETICAL BASIS

English is an international language other than those used for related between countries,
is also used to deepen and developing science, for the most part science books imported from
abroad. (Izzan and Mahfuddin, 2007), And According to Richard & Rodger, 1986, many people
in various countries use English as a means of communication in various important international
meetings. Mastery of English is very important because almost all global sources of information
in various aspects of life use this language.
English is a global language that is spoken by most of the world's population,
almost all professions, almost all situations. English is the language of communication, the
language of knowledge and the language of business. In the career world, being able to speak
English is very important in the world of work. So that preparing children to be able to speak
English is an absolute obligation that parents do for their children's future to be better. With the
importance of English for children, it is quite worrying if children are not equipped with English
skills. Especially in today's digital era, global competition is quite fierce. Besides that, there is no
reason for the Sultan to find the right media for the baby. Especially at this time learning English
for children can be done anytime and anywhere. Through Cakap, a feature is currently available
to assist parents in providing English language skills for children. Learning English for children
doesn't have to be a hassle, just from a smartphone or laptop, your child will be able to learn
English in a fun and effective way.
Dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar,
pengelompokan materi secara sistematis telah diatur untuk siswa. Namun kendala utama yang
dihadapi adalah kurangnya kemampuan kosakata. Padahal ada beberapa komponen yang harus
dikuasai dalam bahasa Inggris yaitu grammar, vocabulary, dan pronuncation

DISCUSSION

A. Strategies or methods that the teacher should use so that children like English
lessons

from the research we conducted in public elementary school 2, we can see that the
teacher has not implemented good learning, which is where the word good means the learning
process is still lacking. The teacher is still carrying out a learning process that looks slow, which
means that the teacher only gives children assignments without explaining them first, but the
class still looks conducive, it's just that the students look confused and don't know how to answer
these questions because the language looks foreign to them and difficult to understand. which is
where learning English should be done in a creative way, for example inviting students to play
guessing the names of animals or food in English and inviting children to spell it in English,
because in this creative way the children will be more active and enthusiastic about following
English lessons. Not only that, the teacher must use learning properties so that children are more
interested in English lessons, the teacher must be able to attract children's attention to be able and
able to receive the material presented and in this case the teacher also has to be patient because
sometimes there are children who find it difficult to accept the lesson because the pronunciation
is difficult and the writing is difficult to understand, but slowly the students will understand and
be able to accept the lesson, it can be said that they do not pressure the child and let the child
slowly be able to accept the lesson.

8
B. public elementary school children interest in English lessons

attractiveness of children in public elementary school 2, especially grade 2 is still lacking

like the explanation above, where elementary school 2 Aek Kanopan students tend to look
confused in understanding learning because the learning process is too monotonous and does not
teach children to be active because the teacher only gives the task of writing fruit or object
names in books, causing boredom in children, but class remains conducive. With errors in
teaching, the impact will make children lazy and bored to attend these lessons so that it is hoped
that teachers, especially in the field of English, change learning to be more creative and
innovative so that students become interested and interested in these lessons.

CHAPTER VI

CLOSING

A. Conclusion

English is one of the four subjects tested. Like it or not, like it or not, students have to
spend three years in junior high or high school. The obstacle is that many students consider
English a difficult subject. This may be due to the students' previous minimal knowledge of
English and the striking differences from English and Indonesian, especially in the pronunciation
of vocabulary and sentence patterns they use. As a result, they tend to be passive and hesitate to
try it. This is exacerbated when they pay less attention to the lessons when the teaching and
learning process takes place. They even tend to chat with their classmates and do other activities
such as doodling, studying subjects, and some even sleeping. On this issue, he tries to instill the
importance of English lessons, both for daily life and to face the times that continue to develop
rapidly and are increasingly sophisticated, if we don't learn English then we will be left behind
because of our ignorance. The Indonesian government, the Ministry of National Education, has
introduced English at the elementary school level (SD) in almost all villages in Indonesia.
English learning can be done by teaching children to play games and with these activities
elementary school children will be active and not feel bored with their eyes. The lesson is
because with this method the child's memory will increase because when learning he looks happy
and likes not being depressed, from what was observed in SDN 2 Aek Kanopan that students
tend to look confused in understanding learning because the learning process is too monotonous
and does not teach children to be active because the teacher only assigns the task of writing the

11
names of fruits or objects in the book, causing boredom in the children, but the class remains
conducive.

B. Suggestion
The advice that we can give is, it is better if the learning process in English subjects
should be designed as actively as possible so that it will attract children's attention. And The
advice that we can give is, it is better if the learning process in English subjects should be
designed as actively as possible so that it will attract children's attention.
