During the time of Creation, stories about how God made our world is based on

oral tradition wherein what happened is passed from words of mouth.

When God made Adam and Eve , knowledge about God is about the strict

adherence to His word in order for them to stay forever in the Garden of Eden,

unfortunately, because Eve and Adam disobeyed God’s instruction that not to eat the

tree that bears the fruit about the knowledge of good and evil, they were banished in the

said place for their disobedience to God’s command.

So all of Adam’s offspring came to our world committing sins until such time they

were punished during the Great Flood. Noah luckily survived and his offspring

dominated the earth.

Most of our knowledge of our the patriarchs is only knew by men and they were

the ones who handed down the said tradition from their sons up to their grandson. Only

the eldest held the important decision if the father is away or gone.

Women tend to know how to manage the household as training to become a wife

and a mother for her future family.

During the time of Moses, most of the knowledge is based on the first five books

of the Torah or Old Testament wherein there is strict adherence to the laws and

commandments handed by God to Moses, to the Judges up to the time of the prophets

and they are look upon with respect and veneration.

During the time of Christianity much emphasize in learning Greek and Latin

Languages, because the Bible is written in the said languages and it is considered that

you are highly intelligent person if you had the command of the said language. Rich

knowledge of Christ is based on the Books of John , Matthew, Luke and Mark all found

in the New Testament.

Even if there is the Division of the Greek Orthodox and the Catholic Church,

Christian education flourished and it is emphasized through arts and letters so that

ordinary people can understand the life and works of Christ.

During Medieval times, universities and schools ran by religious orders flourished

and focused on creating scholarly papers based on Scholasticism as perceived by


Roger Bacon and St. Thomas of Aquinas wherein religion and logic quest for the truth in

order for man to attain salvation through Christ.

During the Renaissance, individualism existed but the church hired the most

talented people so that the faithful will understand the life of Christ through architecture,

engineering, sculpture and in painting for Latin and Greek were not understood by

people. They can make descriptions on how Christ lived during the early parts of the

Christian era and how he suffered for the sake of redeeming men from the punishment

of hell.

During the Scientific revolution many priest and pastors excelled in the field of

mathematics and science that they taught it to their students in the different universities

in order for their students to acquire the knowledge of patient observation and

discovering new forms of intelligence that will add up to the improvement of Science

and Technology.

During the Industrial Revolution, technical vocational schools were introduced by

church ran educational institutions so that people can be hired and cope up with living

standards during the time of the industrial revolution.

Many Kindergarten and Nursery schools were established to help couples focus

in their work and to lessen their mind in taking of their children that might cause burden

or injury and employers do not want to see workers to be disturbed by children while

their parents are working inside the factories.

The women during this turbulent times were not given opportunities, though there

are many church ran schools, but most of the courses offered for women are more on

household services that trained them to be good wives and mothers.

It is a very sad state, fortunately some women activist asks for better pay, equal

opportunities in work and government service and the right to vote were asked by

women. Later years women are allowed to enter church ran universities and take up

courses that were the dominantly enrolled by men.

The twentieth century is a time were many Catholic schools and Non-Catholic

schools were opened to all youths who are thirsting for quality and cheaper education,

they wanted to have better jobs, higher wages and job security while doing their work in

order for them to support their families. Employers in return wanted more graduates
coming from church ran schools and universities, for these graduates have high moral

values and incline to the teachings of the Bible,, like in our university, though theories of

Christian Education is not part or is not credited if we apply promotions and/or

equivalency record form its an institutional requirement because, our alma mater

wanted to see us morally upright and free from doing illegal acts because the teachings

of Christ asked us teacher to lived well and be off from sins and accept the grace

coming from God so that we shall be saved on the coming of judgment day.

During the patriarchal times, the males usually dominated the field of leadership

not only in local politics, economics, religion but especially of education, whereas the

father taught his sons on methods of farming , taking care of the herds and flocks, to

fish in the rivers and lakes, therefore in general all kinds of trades, for the males are the

ones who will upbring and take care of the needs of the family for survival. This is

somehow different among the women who were taught at home by their mothers to

become good wives and mothers for their children when they got married.

were redeem from slavery from Egypt. . The knowledge being followed by the Jews

were written in the book of Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus and Deuteronomy

which are called as the Book of Torah all compiled in the present Old Testament.

disappeared for they tried to preserve the way of life and propagate Christianity even

among the fiercest barbarian tribes and they were successful in doing so.

The priest were able to introduce new ways of farming, writing and other forms of

trade so that people may start their own way of survival until such time that the church

opened up parochial schools to cater the education of the children and the youth who

later went to the universities. The universities long ago are damp and cold and usual

instructions are more on oral and memorization in order to pass, students need to

memorize a whole book and ready to explain it to the professor who is usually a priest.

During the 18th and the 19th century at the brink of the industrial revolution, the

church introduced the nursery system wherein children while their parents are working

took care of the couple’s children and teaching them Christian values and faith.

Some notable schools in the Philippines that were ran by religious orders were

the University of Sto. Tomas being ran by Dominican Monks, Ateneo de Manila

University which were ran by the Jesuits, Letran College are some schools that are for

males (later these schools accepted women) while for women, the church opened the

La Concordia Convent and La Consolacion College and all of these taught our women

in performing well to become good mothers and housewife.


The Protestant Americans during the 20 th century were able to build schools that

had no religious affiliation like the University of the Philippines (1908) and the Philippine

Constabulary Academy (1905) later known as the Philippine Military Academy.

The Christian education that we are receiving now is the proof that we are taught

to be morally upright and follow the rules of God written in the Bible.

We should be happy that God gave us this opportunity and this will help us to be

come morally upright and have the fear of the lord for it is the first sign of knowledge

and wisdom to attain salvation of our souls from the punishment of hell.
