Family entertainment
These pictures show some ways in which a family can have fun together. Compare and
contrast them. Include the following points:
 relaxing activities families usually do
 places / facilities for entertainment in your area
 why it is important for the family to spend time together
 what you and your family usually do together

Prompts for the Interlocutor:

 What entertainment facilities does your town offer?
 What entertaining activities can you do indoors/outdoors?
 How much time do you spend with your family?
 When was the last time you went to the zoo/funfair?
People nowadays have more free time than they had earlier, because of the development of
technology. So we have a lot of ways of spending our free time individually and together with
our family: AT HOME: playing boardgames, watching tv, listening to music, playing
computer games, gardening, DIY (doing it yourself), outside your home:going out to meet
friends and having a talk, eating out, having a barbecque , going to the cinema, theatre, zoo,
museum, going to festivals, climbing the mountains, hiking, sightseeing, spending a day in a
spa or in an aquaworld, spending a day on the riverbank., kayaking and canoeing, swimming.
In my town we have a House of Culture, where a lot of programmes are organized for
families: festivals, performances and meetings for people with the same interests( martial arts,
language learning, computer, embroidery courses)
I can spend not too much time with my family, because we are all very busy. But when we
have long weekends we often do something together: fishing or doing some sports etc.
When I was younger, we went to the zoo every year. My favourite zoo is in Budapest, because
there you can see something new when you go there: new animals or new shows etc.
Nowadays we don’t go to funfairs, because it is very expensive.

3. INDIVIDUAL LONG TURN (7. Szabadidő, művelődés, szórakozás)

The examiner gives the candidate the task sheet and the pictures. The candidate has 30
seconds to prepare.

Sports
These pictures show individual and team sports. Compare and contrast them. Include the
following points:
 sports that are done in teams or individually
 why people choose either individual or team sports
 popular and successful sports in Hungary
 sports you do in your school and in your free time.

Prompts for the interlocutor:

 What is your favourite sport?
 Do you do any sport?
 What sport are Hungarian competitors good at?
 How many PE lessons do you have a week?
 What sports events do you like watching on TV?

There are many different types of sports, some of them are done individually, others in teams. Most
ball games, such as football, handball, basketball, baseball, volleyball, rugby or ice- and field hockey
are done in teams. Others, such as swimming, athletics, skiing, combat sports and tennis, are done
individually. Some people like to be part of a team. They like the feeling that they can rely on others,
that when they win or lose they do it together. Those people would probably do team sports. Others
like to achieve results alone, so if anything goes wrong they can only blame themselves. Some of
them feel that they don't want to depend on others. They would most probably do individual sports.
It also happens sometimes that a person simply likes a particular sport or it is a family tradition and
they start doing it regardless of their personality. Hungary has some very popular and successful
sports. Football is probably the most popular, although we are not particularly successful in it at the
moment. Lots of people like handball and water sports such as swimming or water polo. Events draw
huge crowds when the national team or athletes are competing in these sports. We also have great
gymnasts and boxers and we have had huge successes in the kayaking and canoeing too.
My school has an indoor and an outdoor sports field. We usually do gymnastics inside or we use the
weights and other machines, and we play basketball or indoor football. We can also play football
outside, or do athletics when the weather is fine. We have access to the town swimming pool and
the ice rink once a week. We are very lucky that we can use them; we have had some great times
there.
I like handball the most, I go to training once a week in the community centre. I play with friends
there and this year we participated in the town championship. We had lots of fun.

love quiz shows.

Simpsons. I have the 1'st and 2nd seasons on DVD. It is an animated cartoon series. It is very funny
and I love the characters. It's on every Saturday.
What did you watch on TV yesterday? Yesterday I watched the news and the quiz show after the
weather forecast. Then I saw the latest episode of Gilmore Girls. It is a series about a single mother,
called Lorelai, and her daughter Rory. They live in an American town called Stars Hollow.

(practising / doing / playing) ... them. I wouldn't miss the (Sunday/ regular/ live) ... transmissions of
(the football European/World Cup/ the matches of my favourite basketball team/ the
Summer/Winter Olympic Games) ... for anything. I usually watch only the sports roundup in the
evening news, because I can't sit in front of the TV for hours watching a (car/motor race I football
match) ...
What are the advantages/ disadvantages of watching TV? First of all, watching television after a hard
day in school or at work is very relaxing. It helps you forget your problems. It is also entertaining and
educational. We can obtain a lot of information and knowledge from the programmes. Finally,
television keeps us upto-date on what is happening around the world.
What do you think of TV commercials? In my opinion, there are too many commercials. It is very
annoying that films are interrupted several times by ads and the same commercials are played over
and over again. I know that ads help the channels make money to stay alive and they might also be
useful for customers because they inform people about new products, but I think they should be
shown between and not during programmes.
