MODULE 1: MOTIVATION

1. Did you take up the novel Noli Me Tangere before? What did you think of
the novel?

- Yes, I remember back then when we were in 9th grade we were asked to
read about the Noli Me Tangere. Before starting to actually read it, I was
really curious of what’s the story all about because of its popularity.
Upon reading it until the end I can now understand why it is important
here in Philippines and I can definitely say the story is one of the most
beautiful yet tragical fictional stories I had read.

2. Why is Noli Me Tangere, a book that was banned in the past, now a required
reading in Philippine schools? Why did the Catholic Church go against
making it requirement?

- Back then Noli Me Tangere was banned because the priest and the
government believe that it was an insult to them causing Rizal's
imprisonment and subjection to death. It also destroys the content that
goes against the Catholic Church.

3. What do you know about the publication of Noli Me Tangere and how it
affected the Philippines?

- Noli Me Tangere was published in 1887, it was written by Dr. Jose Rizal.
The story was all about how Spaniards colonized us. It affected the
Philippines because it interprets the Philippines life during the Spaniards
colonization, which became an inspiration for Filipinos to become united
and fight for our freedom and independence.
4. Do you think that the novels in the Philippines are as important as they used
to be when Noli Me Tangere was published in 1887? Are people still
inspired by novels? How do you say so?

- I don’t think that the novels here in Philippines is just as important as the
Noli Me Tangre. Because Noli Me Tangere was one of a kind novel that
be must recognized by Filipinos. It was an inspiration for us to fight for
our rights and freedom against the Spaniards. However even other novels
are not important as what Noli Me Tangere is, people still get inspiration
from these, because there are a lot of novels that influences about right
lifestyle, morals that we may learn.

5. What is it about reading long text, such as short stories or novels that makes
it different from reading tweets and Facebook status posts? What is the
importance of literature for the Facebook generation?

- Reading novels is so different from reading in facebook post or tweets

because in novel it has a lot of information and learnings which can allow
us to learn more about life- not only that, it can also inspire us to become
the better version of ourselves depending on what genre you are reading.
The significance of literature for the facebook generation is to remind us
that there are lot of things we could explore outside of social media. In
addition literature is an art because it shows the creativity of our
thoughts.

Identify what literary genre is being used in the story

- The literary genre used in Noli Me tangere is Historiographical

metafiction.

Differentiate METAFICTION to HISTORIOGRAPHICAL METAFICTION

provide(1)example each.
- Metafiction is a literary genre that emphasizes the plot and continually
reminds the readers to be aware that what they are reading contains
imaginary events and people, example of metafiction is when the book
we’re reading acknowledges itself as a book. Whilst, Historiographical
metafiction is also part of literary genre that the historical truth can be
verify. It consist of fiction-imaginary facts. One of the example of it is
the Noli Me Tangere of Dr. Jose Rizal.
