TITLE: ANOINTING COMMITMENT AND APPOINTMENT WORKING TOGETHER

TEXT: Luke 10:1 – 12 (NKJV)

INTRODUCTION:
There are clear differences between the anointed and the appointed: the former is greater than
the latter and so controls it. Do not seek or lobby for an appointment, rather seek anointing.
Anointing is the supernatural ability to do something which is COMMITMENT.

COMMITMENT: The state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, an

engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action. Dedication, devotion, bond,
adherence, responsibility, obligation, duty, charge, liability, burden, pressure, undertaking,
task, engagement.

APPOINTMENT: An arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place, or an act

of assigning a job or position to someone, Meeting, engagement, arrangement, assignation,
nomination, designation, designating, commissioning, engagement, adoption, selection,
choosing.

When there is ANOINTING, there will be commitment which will lead to

APPOINTMENT COMMITMENT: means been bound to a course of action or to another
person or persons. There are numerous references in the bible addressing the Christians in
various aspects of life: to our families, neighbours, employers, the church, our health and in
all things, we do or say (Eph.6:5). But the bible also teaches that the chef commitment of our
lives is to God Himself (Matt. 22:37-38). God requires our complete devotion, all that we do
and all that we can be.

God has a purpose for your life and thus gives you the necessary ability to achieve it. When
you pursue an appointment that God has not anointed you for, you will live under stress and
pressure. However, when you seek the anointing, the right appointment will follow and you
will get great results.

1
1. ANOITING BEFORE APPOINTMENT:
David was anointed before appointment
1 Samuel 16:1-2 Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I
have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you
to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”

Anointing does not look on the appearance: 1 Samuel 16:7-13

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature,
because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the
outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Acts 6:3, we see the correct order that things should follow. First, you must be full of the
Holy Ghosts anointing and power, then you will get the right appointment. Your focus should
therefore be on the anointing and not the appointment. The appointment is merely a platform
for the manifestation of the anointing. Before Stephen was appointed as a deacon, he had
already been anointed by the Holy Ghost, but we did not hear of him preaching the gospel or
performing miracles until the appointment came.

After the appointment, Acts 6:7-8 says: “And the word of God increased; and the number of
the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were
obedient to the faith. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles
among the people.” This tells us that when you appoint the anointed, great exploits follow. If
you have the privilege of choosing people for any appointment (in Church or otherwise),
ensure you select those who are anointed with the supernatural ability from God to function.

If you have been appointed into a role that you are not anointed for, then first, check if that
appointment is God’s purpose for your life. If it is His purpose for your life, then you must
cry to Him for anointing. Being appointed without being anointed can never produce
excellence. Therefore, seek the anointing first before the appointment.

COMMITMENT "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always

abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in
the Lord". 1 Corinthians 15:58.

2
Your consistency in your commitment with the Lord will cause you to increase and to elevate
the anointing that God has in stored in you which will lead you to your divine appointment in
the Lord. If God is committed to you, you need to be committed with Him, too.
Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
Proverbs 16:3, Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.

2. BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF COMMITMENT

There are several instances of commitment in the bible.
Abraham was ready to sacrifice his son, Isaac (Genesis 2:2-3).
David's men risked their lives to get water for their master (2 Samuel 23:15-17).
Ruth stayed with Naomi during her hard times. (Ruth 1:11-18).
Esther was committed to saving the Jews from destruction (Esther 4:15-16).
Joshua demonstrated unwavering commitment to the worship and service of God Josh 24:15
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were resolute in their faith even in the face of
threat to their lives (Daniel 1:8-16, 3:13-18).
Paul was ready to spend and be spent for the course of the gospel. (2 Cor12:15; Phil 1:21).
David was committed to praising God. (Psalm 57:7; 108:1).

3. SIGNS AND COST OF COMMITMENT

Commitment comes out of love, gratitude and passion. Here are some signs of commitment:
1. Willingness to obey and surrender to the leadership of Jesus Christ (Matt 16:25-25).
2. Willingness to give sacrificially (Genesis 22:2-3, 9-10)
3. Willingness to endure hardship for the sake of the gospel (2 Timothy 2:3)
4. Willingness to go extra mile or pay the ultimate price (Acts 12:10-13; Esther 4: 15-16)
5. Willingness to witness for Christ (1 Corinthians 9:16-17)
6. Willingness to spend quality time alone with God (Joshua 1:7-9; John 15:7-8)

CONCLUSION: "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always

abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in
the Lord". 1 Corinthians 15:58
