Documented Essay about Poverty

Today, approximately all of the areas here in the Philippines, inequality or the gap

between the rich and poor is very high and increasing. Existence of poverty has always been

present that is one of Philippines's greatest and most apparent problems. According to Merriam

Webster Dictionary, poverty is the condition of one who lacks the regular or socially appropriate

sum of money or property. It means that job earnings are so low

that basic human needs can not be met. Poverty and inequality remain an issue in the Philippines.

There are several factors why a large number of people are facing poverty in our country,

the Philippines. Some of those is the income distribution inequality. The rich earns higher

revenues than the poor. This unequal distribution would make the wealthy people wealthier and

the poor  people poorer only to the point that they can not obtain basic necessities. Another for

this is the lack of education which they have limited enhancement of their knowledge and skills.

Because not all people in the Philippines are in a condition to get the best standard

of education, many of them would find it hard to compete with graduates from other countries to

get a job. Another factor in coming across poverty is the shortage of employment here in our

country (Asian Development Bank, 2009). When there is a shortage of employment, there will

be a raised in unemployment rate in our country. Jobless people will not be able to earn money

and will need to rely on those who are working for fundamental needs which will slow the

economic progress of the Philippines. In addition, overpopulation also leads to why a large

number of people are experiencing poverty. For a rapidly increasing population, it will be
difficult to serve all working-force citizens. It's going to be difficult to ensure that every Filipino

can get a job and earn a living.

The more people who are unemployed, the more people are going to suffer from poverty,

and they will have difficulties in fulfilling their basic needs. Lastly and most common reason of

poverty is corruption. Rather  than wanting to improve the country by means of being thrifty of

the people's money, it ends up in the hands of some unjust politicians causing the country's

situation to worsen (Shah, 2014).

When poverty continues to escalate in the Philippines, the people will face outcomes,

particularly in the state of poverty. Another is suffering from health concerns. Since they live

in poor living conditions and unable to meet their needs, they are  vulnerable to health problems.

Poverty also raises crime rates in the Philippines. It  makes desperate people to steal money and

commit crimes for quick cash (Asian Development Bank, 2009). Lastly, one of the consequences

of poverty is child labor. Children are deprive to attend to school in order to work to enable them

to survive (Uy, n.d.). Poverty makes life a survival that living naturally.

Tons of people are struggling from poverty. To prevent poverty, we should resolve the

sources including unequal distribution of income, lack of quality education,

lack of employment, overpopulation and corruption. If we can deal with this problem, we'd

decrease poverty, thus helping to reduce the incidence of crime, health issues and child labor.
