Course Relevance: The principles learned in this course will allow the student to
effectively work with and through others in an organization. The principles are
relevant to any type of organization or group, empowering the student to lead
others, negotiate, embrace change and better understand the role of business in
society.
Required Materials:
Kreitner, R. (2004). Management (9th ed.). Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin.
Through the student involvement in this course, they will develop and
document their achievement of the following PACT skills:
Primary skills developed and documented:
1. Leadership
• Through analysis of case studies involving real life situations, students
will demonstrate understanding of planning, communication and
motivation.
2. Teamwork
• Through assignments, projects and role -plays, students will demonstrate
skills used to create and be a part of an effective team.
3. Valuing Diversity
• By analyzing modern and historical frameworks, students will recognize
different synergies and their value.
4. Problem Solving
• Through assignments and discussions, students will demonstrate
problem solving skills using concepts and tools from the class.
Assessment Tasks:
These learning outcomes and primary Learning PACT skills will be demonstrated
by:
1. Assignments and case studies of actual situations dealing with concepts
covered in class
2. Engaging in meaningful and critical class discussion with your peers
Course Content:

A. Understand the evolution and nature of management
B. Recognize, create and compare effective plans and decision making

D. Identify important issues related to motivation and leadership
E. Understand control and operational management issues
Grade Determination:
Grades will be based on successful completion of assessment tasks and learning
activities, active class participation and written exams.
