1. Discuss comprehensively how population growth affects the environment, economy, and
development.
Rapidly increasing population growth, it contributes to resource scarcity,
environmental problems such as global warming, erosion and diminishing
biodiversity. As our population increases it puts pressure in our resources
especially the limited one. It not only adversely affects the enhancement of food
production, but also raises the restrictions on savings, foreign exchange and the
creation of human resources, as it continues to minimize per capita savings and
slows the growth of physical infrastructure.
3. Discuss the five fundamental properties of the population comprehensively, and each of
them affects each other.
There are five fundamental properties of the population namely;
Abundance- In a given ecosystem, it represents species. Abundance may be
defined as individual population size, or individual density per unit area that may
change over time.
Birth Rates- It is often referred to as natality and is sometimes expressed as the
amount of live species born per 1,000 of the population annually.
Death Rates- That is the real loss of individuals in a given environmental
situation. It also varies with conditions of population and climate, such as
predation, disease, and other environmental hazards such as earthquakes and
floods.
Growth Rates- Expresses population size change as time factor. This gives us
more information about the exact population growth over the whole period of
time, and allows us to better predict future years of population growth or decline.
Age Structure- This is the proportion of people in each age group. Within a
population, the ratio of the different age groups determines the present
reproductive capacity of the population and thereby anticipates the future.
These population properties affect each other. The changes in abundance may
be result of increasing and decreasing of both birth rate and death rate. Age
structure also affected of changes of birth rate and death rate. The lower age
group night increase due to increase of birth rate while older age group might
decrease because a lot of people die early.
5. Why is carrying capacity considered one of the critical factors in maintaining ecological
balance and sustainability?
Carrying ability of a biological species in a given ecosystem refers to the
maximum number of species individuals the environment can support and
maintain. It is calculated as the average ambient load. The physical features
present in the environment serve as limiting factors. The availability of food is an
important variable since it affects the size of the species population. It does so in
such a way that the population size will gradually decrease before the resources
are sufficient if food demand is not met for a given time span.
6. Why population changes? How these changes shape the population structure in the
future?
Because of several factors the growth of a population is growing. The
number of individuals that are the result of reproduction and immigration
introduced to the population over a period of time. One of the reasons for making
an advanced technology is also. These changes could in brought a disadvantage
over the population structure in the near future.
