I. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: 4x1=4
Swallows and Martins make their nests out of mud and clay, so they have to construct them in a
sheltered place away from the rain. The tailor bird sews leaves together to make its nest. Others weave their
nests from grass. Hollows in the ground and small burrows are also used as nests. Flightless birds such as
the Ostrich dig holes in the ground to hatch and protect their young and the Kingfisher cuts a tunnel into the
river bank. Parrots, Doves and some owls do not bother to build a nest at all. They try to find one ready-
made to take over. And the cuckoo simply lays it there for the other bird to rear.
Questions:
1.Swallows and Martins have to build their nests in a sheltered place away from the rain. Why?
