As it is not meant for the common tongue it is often described as very guttural and inhuman when
heard aloud. This is because it is merely the closest that the human vocal apparatus can come to
reproducing these syllables borne of an ancient language.
The inhuman quality of the language lends to the sound a deep resonance that echoes not only through
our body in powerful vibrations but across the cosmos, through all space time realities.
The potency is dependent on the skill of the practitioner and so practice is essential to using the
language to continue the Work and reach Ascension.
Unlike Earthly languages, R'lyehian makes no distinction between nouns, verbs, adjectives and other
parts of speech. Pronouns may or may not appear. Verbs have only two tenses: present and not-present,
since Cthulhu experiences time in a non-linear fashion. Taken out of context any fragment's translation
is nothing more than guesswork. Plurals in R’lyehian are usually formed by repeating the final letter.
There is a misconception that R’lyehian needs to be spoken perfectly. As that is impossible it’s a little
like trying to get a Christian to Hail Satan: it’s futile and ends in family arguments. Understanding how
to write and translate the language DOES need to be done perfectly, but speaking the language
resonates through each follower individually.
It is important to get the pronunciation as close to correct as possible... but it’s rather like painting a
grand statue; the strokes can be broad as long as the homage is paid. Feel the words vibrate within you,
speaking gutturally and from the back of the throat when appropriate. You will feel it when it resonates
correctly.
