7. Lesson Sequence:
A. Opening - sing hello song and name song (2 minutes)
B. Learning Activities and Pacing
- Review B,A,G fingerings and play hot cross buns (3 minutes)
- Learn when the saints through singing by call and response with marching to
the beat (5 minutes)
- Teach students C and D fingering because it is in the new song (5 minutes)
- Apply notes to when the saints (play just by seeing note letters on board) (10
minutes)
- Create original composition (10 minutes) with guidelines:
o Time limit (no longer than 30 seconds)
o No need to notate (can be done by memory)

o Has to start and end in the tonic (use do) (what feels like home?)
o Needs to include B,A,G,D,C
(number and list as many as needed, specific learning experiences
and instruction, specific instructions for students and teacher
reminders, including review, pacing is allotted time)
C. Assessment Activity
Students will perform their original composition in front of the class at
the end (10 minutes)
(description of evidence of learning from #2, formal or informal, with
pacing, either embedded in learning activities or separate)
D. Summative Activity/Closing/Wrap-up: review what students learned
(two new notes (C and D) by asking them what new notes they
learned and that they were able to compose a piece
E. Secondary/alternative plans: (what could go wrong and how to fix it)
Freeze dance at end if students are not focused enough to create
composition or are too reserved to perform in front of peers
