○ WHAT IS CULTURE? Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular
group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music
and arts.
○ Culture enhances our quality of life and increases overall well-being for both
individuals and communities.
○ It is a culture of each people that makes it unique
○ For example- let’s take children. Each person is born into a different family,
community, language, religion. The characteristics of a child's social
setting, affects how he or she learns to think and behave, by means of instruction,
rewards and punishment. This setting includes home, school, neighborhood etc.
Then there are also the child's interactions with other people like friends,
relatives, and the entertainment and news media.
○ How individuals will respond to all these influences is not predictable
○ But People from different cultures may take a lot of time to break the silence
because there isn’t much common ground but if we take two people who have
the same interest or are from the same culture then the time they take to mingle
with each other wouldn’t be more.
○ Sociologists define ideology as” cultural beliefs that justify particular social
arrangements, including patterns of inequality.”
○ Dominant groups use these sets of cultural beliefs and practices to justify the
systems of inequality that maintain their group’s social power over non-dominant
groups.
○ A new study suggests that cultural activities, such as the use of language,
influence our learning processes, affecting our ability to collect different kinds of
data, make connections between them, and infer a desirable mode of behaviour
from them.

○ It gives us knowledge about our traditions, language, education, music. And by
excessive knowledge it makes people emotionless.
○ Culture mix is it brings different ethnic groups together to create peace and
harmony. This is done by incorporating different religions, cultures and beliefs.
○ Feelings of discrimination - they fight over each other to prove their dominance
○ Good trade - When countries come together it increases the skills in the labour
market, that is, exchanging ideas from one ethnic group for the sole purpose of
getting one product.
○ Overpopulation - If a particular place is having prospering or thriving culture then
that particular place would be overpopulated by the people trying to adapt or
share the culture
○ Patriotism - so to induce patriotism in an individual, he/ she should be having
immense love, devotion, a sense of attachment towards their homeland, and a
certain belief that would keep their views for their nation rooted strongly.
○ Animosity- A feeling of ill will arousing active hostility.
○ Multiculturalism- the presence of, or support for the presence of, several distinct
cultural or ethnic groups within a society
○ Ethnocentrism — it means to apply one's own culture as a frame of
reference in order to judge other cultures, practices, behaviors, beliefs,
and people, instead of using the standards of the particular culture
involved.

○ Negative impact on cultural rejection- A research described that it has
been identifying the difficulties experienced by sexual minority youth and
the contexts in which these experiences take place .However, this
literature suffers from two limitations. First, many studies narrowly
focus on a single domain such as school or family. Such an approach
may not fully capture the extent or multiplicity of negative factors affecting
the well-being
○ How multiple systems affect the well being- For example,
Bro-fen-brenner's ecological perspective argues that human
development is largely shaped by interconnected environmental
systems that include the people's immediate family or peers at school or
friends, larger neighborhoods and communities and cultural/societal
contexts, as well as people's development in the context of historical
events.

○ Separation from one's culture may cause one to feel lost and isolated.
Connecting back with culture can have a positive impact on your sense of
belongingness and identity – and in turn, on your mental health and
overall wellbeing.
○ ex-For example, some cultures prefer children to be quiet and respectful
when around adults.
○ Whereas some cultures prefer their children to be well spoken and rather
be quiet.
● Economic slide
○ National gdp and health- this is how a country's gdp can relate to health
and wellbeing
○ A country with a strong gdp has a better life satisfaction so they easily put
themselves in a much healthier life choice if they want to.
○ Comparatively The highest life satisfaction is in Denmark which is also
the healthiest country as well as one of the countries with highest gdp.
○ The ongoing cycle -The Gdp and the economy of each country can
decide on the wellbeing of the nation but, even in places such as cities
health and wellbeing isn’t all that great as its fast paced world promotes
quick choices of food and lifestyle which can lead to a decrease in health
and wellbeing. Along with that the overall health of the institutions can
decrease as it also promotes illness factors such as stress and expensive
treatment charges.
