The pace is brisk, with several attacks straight away. At km 7, Pellaud and Lindeman try to race clear. Lindeman sits up
at km 12, Pellaud holds on, keeping a handful of seconds over the peloton. At km 16, Pellaud is leading by 12” over
Bagioli, Pacher, Filosi, Van Kessel and Declercq; the peloton is 40” behind. At km 21, six riders bunch up at the front; the
peloton lets them go. At km 23, the six breakers are leading by 2’12” over the peloton. At km 36, the gap is down to
1’10”. At the end of the third sector, the gap is further down to 30”.
Average speed after one hour of racing: 38.800 km/h.

At the end of the fourth sector (km 53), Pellaud is leading by 1’10” over Bagioli, Pacher and Declercq, and by 2’02” over
