AP Language ISP 3 Quarter: Independent Study Points could do today!

Choices for 2nd Nine Weeks Due on _____________.

For the second nine weeks, we are focusing on speculative\science fiction and examining the theme of
journeys. Again, 150 points are required for an ‘A’; 125 for a ‘B’; 110 for a ‘C’ All events over 150 points will
be considered for extra credit. You may not earn extra credit if you have any missing assignments, excessive tardies or
absences. Extra credit may be limited by the teacher; inquire. It is the expectation that all writing is original work completed
without assistance from the internet or other students. Plagiarism of any kind will result in a grade of zero for the entire 150
point assignment. In addition you will receive a 3 in conduct for the term and your parents will be notified. ATTACH THIS
COVER SHEET TO ANY WORK THAT YOU TURN IN.

ask your English teacher.

Thurs., Participate in A.P. Language Movie Afternoon. Watch Bowling for Columbine 50
Feb. 10 with us and discuss language’s suggestive power and the rhetoric of violence. We
will use this film to discuss the issue of gun control and other current events and
3 – 6 p.m. texts. This is a rated R film, so you must bring a permission slip to attend. Parents
in Portable 29 are welcome. Permission slips are available from your teacher.
On-Going Read a Classic. See the attached Big Read 100 title list from Penguin books. Create 50
an AR-C for 1 social issue in the book. Create a question from the AR-C you
complete and then type a 1 page response to the question you created.
On-Going Writing: Submit your original poetry or short fiction to the Cypress Creek Zine. 30
Place a copy of the work in the box in the media. Be sure my name is highlighted on
your entry.
On-Going Orlando Museum of Art 50

see the exhibit on gender: XX-XY/Gender Representation
in Art. Write a 1 page paper analyzing how
contemporary art critiques gender and cultural
identity.
On-Going Theater Events: Attend a professional or amateur theater event. Check out the 50
offerings at Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, Valencia Community College,
Rollins College, UCF, Orlando Rep, Osceola Performing Arts Center, or other high
schools. Bring a ticket or a program as documentation and write a review of the
performance.
On-going Films of Note. Watch 1 of the 10 Best Picture nominees for the Oscars (the Oscar 50
list comes out at the end of January). Find a review of the film(online or in print).
Write your own review of the film talking back to the author of the review you
found. Attach the review you find and your typed response/review to this cover
sheet. Find reviews of films at the International Movie Database online at
http://www.imdb.com
On-going Watch a Documentary. Watch a documentary from the list you got during the first 50
quarter. In a short essay, analyze the filmmaker’s claim and the types of appeals he
or she uses to persuade the audience. Type your analysis in MLA format and attach
to this page.
On-Going Create: Create a visual argument (video, photo montage, painting etc.) related to a 30
topic we have studied this year. This work must be original (no photos copied and
pasted from Google). Post your visual argument to the Ning.
