Continuous

Contour
Self Portrait
Project!
Create a blind continuous contour self
portrait.

Tell us a little more about your personality

through different facial expressions.

Experiment with different materials by

adding extra materials to your self portrait
to give more expression and details.
Remember how to create a blind contour drawing…

● Contour lines describe the shape of an

object and include interior detail.

● In a blind contour drawing, the artist depicts

an object without removing the drawing tool
from the paper.

● The artist keeps his or her eyes on the

object, not the paper. Thus, the artist is
“blind” to the progress of the drawing until it
is finished.
● Practice doing several Blind
Contour drawings on one piece of
paper, or your sketchbook.

● Try not to look at the paper while

you draw.

● You can draw your face and or

other items in design that are
important to you...

● Remember- Try not to pick up your

pencil either.
What materials do you have around your house that you can
use in your art to add details or describe your personality ?

cardboard, wood, magazine,

newspaper, written text, packaging you
eat a lot of, spices you like, mail you
would throw away etc.

Consider how you can add patterns,

colors and more values to your piece to
create depth and what those things say
about you...
How can the materials you choose add meaning to your design?

● Write out the lyrics to your favorite

song, cut out and add like collage.

● Use packaging from your favorite

candy or something that you like.

● Cut out words or images that you like

from magazines or newspaper and
add to your design.
