POPULATION AND SAMPLING

In this chapter, the researchers chose the survey research design because it served the

purposes of the study and answered the questions directly. The survey research is one in which a

group of people or items is studied by collecting and analyzing data from only a few people

considered representative of the entire group. In other words, only a part of the population is

examined, and findings from this are expected to be generalized to the whole population

(Nworgu 1991:68). McBurney (1994:170) also defines the survey as assessing public opinion or

individual features using questionnaires and methods of sampling.

Purposive sampling method will be used in selecting the participants in this study. This

technique is great to ensure a relatively equal representation of the variables for the study. A

non-probability sampling is used in this research that involves non-random selection based on a

criteria, allowing the researcher to collect initial data easily. The following criteria are as

follows: a.) Nursing student, b.) Currently enrolled at Olivarez College Tagaytay, c.) Currently

enrolled in this academic year 2020-2021 and engage in online learning, d.) Presently in 1st year,

2nd year or 3rd year level, and e.) willing to engage in the study. The study's target population

was defined to include all accessible populations: nursing students at Olivarez College Tagaytay

in Tagaytay City, Cavite since these are respondents within the researcher's reach.
RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

The research population was those students who had their classes online in nursing. From

this population, a sample of Olivarez College Tagaytay nursing students was selected.

Individuals were sent and invited to answer the online survey through Google Forms. The

researcher selects participants who will generate adequate data to ensure a rich analysis of the

studied concept (Creswell, 2008).

In this study, the option and perception of the respondents were sought at Olivarez

College Tagaytay. Fifty-three in BSN I, which were fifty-one percent (51%), 25 in BSN II,

which were twenty-four percent (24%), and 26 in BSN II, which were twenty-five percent (25%)

of the participants, giving a total of 104 respondents. They are shown in table 1 below.

All of them were new to the class system and learning and teaching techniques. They

were the best option to furnish the researcher with the information needed to answer the study's

research question. Those respondents were representative of all BSN students who took online

classes.

Table 1: Nursing students’ year level, quantity and percentage.

LEVEL QUANTITY PERCENTAGE

1 BSN I 53 51%
2 BSN II 25 24%
3 BSN III 26 25%
TOTAL 104 100%
The population may be small enough for some studies to warrant all of them in the study.

But a study might involve a large population, that cannot all be studied. A sample of the
population is called that portion of the population that is studied (Nworgu 1991:69). Therefore, a

sample in this study is a smaller group 3 - 4 of elements drawn through an actual procedure from

an accessible population. The components making up this sample are those that are studied. The

sample of this study population stood at 53 respondents at BSN 1 and 25 respondents at BSN 2,

and 26 respondents at BSN 3 gave a total of 104 respondents.

This qualitative study consisted of open-ended questions designed to motivate the

participants to reflect upon experiences associated with online learning teaching and

development. Surveys were conducted to uncover the most crucial differences and

understanding between traditional face-to-face learning and online class. The survey designed

there few questions focusing on the respondents' issues and challenges of teaching nursing in the

online environment. The researcher identified all factors nursing students experience in a new

normal online class by those sets of questions.

Answering the survey average, approximately 7 minutes in length. All survey answers are

gathered automatically and segregated per question-answers group.
