Is India exam ready?

Every time I wear a mask and step out, I am reminded of the COVID warriors
who are serving the humanity selflessly.
The least, as responsible citizens, we are asked to do is to minimise our outdoor
activities, maintain social distancing and not spread the virus.
Conducting offline entrance exams is equivalent to exposing more than 2
million students and their parents to face the wrath of the virus. Isn't this an act
to dishonour the COVID warriors who stood up as a shield to protect everyone?
Do we need more cases to understand the seriousness of the pandemic?

The only question I present before is that God forbid if a cohort of the student
become COVID positive, do we have enough beds to take care of them?
Or, is it possible for every student appearing for the exams has the luxury to
quarantine himself/herself in a room?
The situation should not be looked at as government vs students. Students and
the government should co-operate with each other to fight the pandemic.
The same exams were deferred due to outbreak of the pandemic. Are we in a
better situation to conduct exams? At this point, even though the condition is
worse, but we have stopped caring about it. We are comparing the daily
increment of cases rather than being concern about the absolute number of cases
reported per day.
Being an economics student, I am aware of the concept of trade-off. We are
facing a trade-off between the career of students and their lives. At present,
choosing career over life may lead to grave consequences.

With all these questions presented, I humbly present the potential changes that
can be adapted to make the most of the lockdown and streamline personal
growth of the students with nations growth.

PAUSE and give time to THINK: With the recent amendments in the education
structure, we have broken the redundant way of rote learning and have given the
limelight to personal growth. Then why wait to implement the new way of
educating students when the opportunity is knocking the door?
I believe that if the competitive exams are conducted post-COVID, then it
would be a win-win situation for the government and the students.

 Benefits to the government:

o The right time to start implementing the new education policy; structural
and curriculum changes at the ground level can be made so that the batch
of 2021 is according to the new education policy.
o Right time to boost Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Startup India programme;
lots of young minds will think out of the box and bring in innovative
ideas, this will motivate the youth serve the society and to generate
employment.
o The nation gets students who have developed new skills and have the
experiences to share.

 Students should be encouraged to:

o Develop new skillsets and revisit and revive old hobbies.

o Find the inner inclination and work to strengthen it.
o Gain experiences through internships and/or freelancing in the targeted
field.
o Address the problems of the world. For example, problems related to
conservation of nature, economics, social, and/or any problem you wish
to solve.
o Work on oneself by regaining strength and inner peace.

I do not know if the concern bodies will go-ahead with the traditional way of
conducting the exams during the pandemic or not but what I know for sure is
this decision shall go down in history books as it has the power to make or mar
the future of India.
