1.

Politically, culturally, and economically, what are the advantages, if any, of a nation
being one compact landmass instead of being an archipelago of scattered islands?

There are a lot of possible advantages when a nation being one compact landmass. First
advantage in politics, the one compact landmass that is handled by their chosen people in the
government will make them comfortable and secure with their environment. A person
working in government or in politics have the power to make rules for everyone in their
community. One rule and everyone must follow. People who are covered by a better
government will result to a better community upon the nation being one compact landmass.
Second advantage, economically, the nation being one compact landmass will help their
community to have a bigger economic status because people may have the potential and
interest to be one of the sellers or buyers in their economy. Another good thing about a nation
being one compact landmass under cultural advantage, people will have the same culture and
beliefs. There are no longer cultural and language barriers within their community. Last
possible advantage in a nation being a one compact landmass, people can travel the whole
landmass with the use of cars. No need to ride an airplane to travel. I believe that the
community will be better and organized if people are living in one compact landmass.

2. What are the characteristics of the Philippines that you would like to emphasize in your
future students? Are these things virtual to be considered? Expound your answer.

Philippines, our beloved country. Treated more than gold when hundreds and thousands
of people died just for its freedom against colonizers. What makes it worth fighting for?
Firstly, the characteristics of the Philippines that deserve to be elaborated to my future
students would be the physical features and foods that can only be found here. Outstanding
physical features of the Philippines include irregular configuration of archipelago, lots of
mountains or volcanic mountains and most especially, beautiful islands. Even a certain island
of the Philippines was recognized as one of those beautiful islands in the world. We luckily
have lots of beautiful sceneries even if it is in a dangerous state like an eruption, people still
admire it. Aside from those beautiful sceneries, tourists commonly commented that the
Philippines has good foods. We offer lots of foods that can only be found here. Those two
characteristics sound realistic but what is more true is that the Philippines has good citizens.
The attitude, the welcoming gestures and the resiliency of Filipinos make the Philippines
more wonderful. Right now, I am not wondering anymore why colonizers choose the
Philippines to colonize. I suddenly stopped questioning the heroic deeds of our fellowmen
because now I know the reason behind their decision to surrender their lives in exchange for
our freedom. The Philippines does not deserve to be mistreated, it should be loved and cared.

3. What is your idea about social reconstructionism? How is it applied in teaching history?
Social reconstructionism is a philosophy that stresses the addressing of social questions
and demands to make a better society. "Change is the only permanent thing in this world",
Heraclitus quotes. As time goes by, everything around us changes. Things may stay and
improve or disappear and be forgotten. Society is made up of humans who are known to be a
political animal who always aim to survive. We imitate changes that occur. We always crave
for a better surrounding and here comes social reconstructionism. No one/ nothing is perfect
but through improvement and progress, we can make a way close to perfection. Society's
changes through time is commonly discussed in History. Through discussing what's the
society's problems, issues, demands, and shortfalls, we may develop solutions in school
because educators believe that schools are tools in solving these problems. Pollution,
discrimination, homelessness, poverty, violence and many more, those are commonly the
problems that every society is facing. Schools having lots of responsible and accountable
citizens, educators choose to apply this topic in class in order to solve problems. Making
society a better one may take a massive amount of time but everyone's cooperation and
dedication in aiming for a better world will make it come true. Let's pray and make a way in
making progress not only for us but also for the next generation. Our society is our home,
let's make it feel like home.
