Background

Globe Telecom, Inc. (GLO) was originally incorporated on January 16, 1935 as Globe
Wireless Limited with a franchise to operate wireless long distance message services in the
Philippines. The Company eventually changed its name to the present one in 1992, and

as a new Inc.foreign partner the following year.

GLO is a telecommunications company that provides digital wireless communication services

nationwide under the "Globe Postpaid", "Globe Prepaid", and "TM" brands using a fully

(VTI) from San Miguel Corporation, with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company
acquiring the remaining 50% interest. VTI owns an equity stake in Liberty Telecom
Holdings, Inc. (LIB) as well as in enfranchised companies including Bell Telecommunication
Philippines, Inc.; Eastern Telecom Philippines, Inc.; Express Telecom, Inc.; and Tori

On June 21, 2016, GLO exercised its rights as holder of 50% equity interest of VTI to cause
VTI to propose the conduct of a tender offer on the common shares of LIB held by minority
shareholders as well as the voluntary delisting of LIB. At the completion of the tender offer
and delisting of LIB, VTI's ownership of LIB is at 99.1%.

Ratio analysis involves the construction of ratios using specific elements from the
financial statements in ways that help identify the strengths and weaknesses of the company.
Ratios help measure the relative performance of different financial measures that characterize
the firm’s financial health.

Profitability Ratios measure the company’s efficiency in generating profits. Globe

Telecom had a Gross Profit Margin of 89% in 2015, 91% in 2016 and 90% in 2017. In other
words, for every P1 of sales, Globe Telecom earned an average of P0.90 in Gross Profit over
the past 3 years. Meanwhile, for every peso, the company earned about P0.19 in Operating
Profit since 2015, and P0.13 in Net Profit. Also, each peso of asset held by Globe Telecom
has generated P0.06 on average and each peso of equity has generated about P0.25 in profits.

Efficiency ratios, on the other hand, measure the efficiency with which the Globe
Telecom company manages its assets. As seen on the Financial Ratios table above, Total
Asset and Fixed Asset Turnover decreased from 2015. This shows a good sign- it means that
the company’s expenses are decreasing or its revenues are increasing. In the meantime,
Accounts Receivable Turnover did not alter for three years, and Inventory Turnover
increased 1x in 2017, decreasing its days of Inventory which is better.

Furthermore, Solvency Ratios measure the relative amount of funds supplied by

equity and debt holders of the company. The focus is on long-term solvency. Globe
Telecom’s 2015 Debt-Equity ratio is 2.30. For every P1 of assets financed by equity there are
P2.30 of assets financed by debt. For 3 years, the company increased this ratio and lately has
P3.17 of assets per peso is financed by debt. This increase shows the company’s financial
strength for its cash flow is sufficient to meet its long-term obligations.

Lastly, liquidity ratios measures the company’s ability to meet its maturing financial
obligations. The focus is on short-term solvency. 2015-2017 liquidity ratios of Globe
Telecom vary, and yet all showed a Current Ratio < 1. Clearly, the company in this case
might have a difficulty paying its maturing or debt obligations. Nevertheless, a CR <1 does
not mean that the the company will not be able to meet its maturing obligations. Globe
Telecom’s 2017 Quick Ratio is 0.49. In other words, liquidating all current assets except
Inventory and Prepayment accounts has generated enough cash to pay for 49% of the Globe
Telecom’s maturing obligations.

Globe LTE Nears 95% Nationwide Coverage with 700 MHz, Other New Spectrum
Assets
Consistently scores higher than competition in 4G LTE accessibility

Fully utilizing its 700 MHz spectrum and other new spectrum assets, Globe Telecom is on
course in deploying LTE service to 95% of cities and municipalities nationwide by the end of
2018.

This is part of the company’s commitment to the National Telecommunications Commission

(NTC) when it was granted co-use of 700 MHz, 2600 MHz, and other spectrum bands,
following the acquisition of 50% of San Miguel’s telecommunication assets in 2016.

“The new spectrum assets enabled Globe to fast-track the rollout of LTE service nationwide,”
said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Governance, Network Technical
Group. As of third quarter of 2018, Globe has deployed close to 12,000 LTE cell sites using
700 MHz, 2600 MHz, and other spectrum assets. Almost 3,000 of these LTE sites are
equipped with 700 MHz, while over 3,700 of these LTE sites are powered by 2600 MHz.

Agustin said the LTE sites cover major business districts and highly urbanized and populated
areas in the Philippines, as customers using LTE-capable devices are steadily increasing in
these areas. About 50% of new LTE site deployments during 2018 are in the National Capital
Region/Greater Manila Area region, 35% are in North Luzon and South Luzon, while about
15% are in Visayas and Mindanao.

As of end-September this year, the LTE service of Globe is now available in about 90% of
cities and municipalities nationwide.

“We are confident that more and more Filipinos will experience improved internet services as
adoption of LTE-capable devices increases and as we continue to deploy LTE coverage in
more cities and municipalities. This is consistent with our strategy of continuously improving
internet services using the previously-idle 700 MHz spectrum and other frequencies that the
NTC allowed us to co-use,” Agustin said.

The aggressive deployment of LTE sites has led to significant improvement in the
Philippines’ 4G LTE availability. OpenSignal results for March 2018 showed that 4G LTE
availability in the Philippines jumped to 63.70% from just 44.80% during the third quarter of
2016—the period when Globe first utilized its 700 MHz spectrum assets. Globe was also able
to retain its position of having the highest 4G LTE availability nationwide as its customers
were able to access the service 67.5% of the time, as compared to its competition’s 59.68%,
the latest OpenSignal report read. The latest 4G LTE availability score of Globe was also “a
big improvement from the 55.3% recorded in March 2017,” the report added.

Aside from nearing deployment of LTE service in 95% of cities and municipalities
nationwide, Globe also fired up almost 300 massive MIMO (multiple input, multiple output)
sites through the use of high-band spectrum 2600 MHz. Massive MIMO is a wireless
transmission technique that uses a large number of antennas to improve cell capacity. The
technology increases wireless throughput, accommodating more users at higher data rates
with better reliability while consuming less power. This technology is seen to provide vast
mobile capacity, coverage, and reliability for 5G, which Globe is set to deploy at homes by
the second quarter of 2019.

Better and Faster Internet to Spur Growth of Esports in PH

OCT 29, 2018

Internet speeds and ping in the Philippines is experiencing a speed spurt. This is welcome
news for the country as it tries to make a name for itself in the field of electronic sports or
Esports, which merits faster-than-average internet speeds to excel in the emerging sport and
is being pushed to be a demonstration sport in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The increased and
improved internet speeds in the country make us not just Esports ready, but also measure up
against the more established and experienced Esports competitors globally.

Based on the Speedtest Global Index Report by leading internet testing and analysis website
Ookla released April of 2018, the Philippines is now tagged as the most improved country in
Southeast Asia. Internet connection in the country now clocks at a staggering five times faster
when it comes to fixed broadband download speeds compared to 2014. This means that the
country can no longer be considered a laggard in terms of internet connection speed.

A recent infographic posted in tech website Yugatech, that used the latest Ookla data, says
that fixed broadband download speeds in the country escalated exponentially by 403 percent,
or about 17.62Mbps, by April 2018. This is definitely a far cry from the excruciatingly slow
3.5Mbps back in 2014. The next most improved country, the same report said, is Malaysia,
with a 391 percent step up in terms of internet connectivity. For mobile, meanwhile, average
download speeds in the Philippines continued its ascending swing to improve from May 2017
to April this year, citing data from OpenSignal, the trusted global standard when it comes to
mobile experience.

With these latest improvements in the country’s internet capability, Globe Telecom, the
leading telco in the country, reiterated that it is fully committed to improve internet speeds
and elevate the overall quality of experience (QoE) of internet services. The same
OpenSignal report showed that Globe was able to retain its position of having the widest 4G
availability, where users were able to find Globe Telecom’s 4G connections 67.5 percent of
the time.

Furthermore, these developments also put the country in a much better position to compete in
another arena, which is esports. BroadbandNow.com, a comparison and research website,
estimates that the minimum internet speed required for gaming is about 1-2Mbps upload and
download, while the maximum ping for gamers is 75-100ms. When it comes to gaming, the
website said, “ping is king and low latency is everything.” These two, BroadbandNow added,
are “hugely important for gaming because of the real-time communication aspect, especially
when racing against other players to accomplish a goal, where being a half-second out of
sync can completely ruin the game.”

The Esports industry is seen to experience vigorous growth to more than 600 million
audiences in the next two years. The country’s army of hardcore gamers play in gaming
platforms such as PC, console, mobile, and tablet, and are mostly the younger male
demographic. They play either at home, internet café or even inside public transportation in
various playtime intervals.

Globe is going full speed ahead to develop Esports in the Philippines, having inked
partnerships with League of Legends developer, Riot; Garena, the publisher of Arena of
Valor and Philippine publisher of League of Legends; and premiere Esports events organiser,
Mineski. With improved speeds, ping, and latency, plus being a producer of Esports content,
it presents a vast opportunity for Globe to nurture the industry.

As the leading purveyor of Esports here, Globe allows a generation of fans and gamers gain
access to and enjoy a variety of games, even competitions, and other opportunities to enhance
their lives through gaming. It is also harnessing the creative spirit and passion of the Pinoy
media industry to develop and introduce Filipino esports talent in the world stage.

Globe Customers Donate Rewards Points to Typhoon Ompong Victims

OCT 30, 2018

With the opening of its Rewards services to accept donations for Typhoon Ompong victims
starting September 16, Globe customers generously donated a total of P1.1 million of their
unused Rewards points for a good cause. In turn, Globe Telecom matched its customers'
donation 100% by donating an equal amount of P1.1 million for the typhoon victims.

"We thank our 17,500 customers who shared their Rewards points to benefit the victims of
Typhoon Ompong. Together these small acts of kindness will help bring greater joy and hope
for our fellow Filipinos in need,” said Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe Telecom.

Donations were given to Rise Against Hunger PH (RAHPH), the local affiliate of Rise
Against Hunger, an international relief agency globally advocating an end to hunger over the
last 20 years. RAHPH provides high nutrition meals packaged by volunteers.

Globe employee volunteers packed over 22,000 meals comprised of rice, soy, dehydrated
vegetables and fruits, flavoring mix, plus vitamin and mineral sachets, which will provide
1,500 families with sustenance for at least 14 days. In the aftermath of the typhoon, Globe
also set up Libreng Tawag and Charging Stations in affected areas to serve those who needed
assistance and to get in touch with their loved ones.

The success of the Globe Rewards donation drive shows that even small amounts can go a
long way in changing lives. Sending relief can be as simple as a click and swipe.

Telecom Volunteers Join Rise Against Hunger in Making History
OCT 26, 2018

Employees of Globe Telecom joined hundreds of volunteers from USA, Italy, India, and
South Africa in helping the international non-government organization Rise Against Hunger
(RAH) achieve its goal of entering the Guinness World Record with the greatest number of
people assembling hunger relief packages simultaneously at multiple venues in five minutes.

The activity held in celebration of World Food Day was also a way for all parties to publicly
show commitment to United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal No. 2 that is to “end
hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.”

Amid an atmosphere of excitement, 214 volunteers from the Philippines were able to
complete the task of packing meals, consisting of a vitamin sachet, soy, veggies, and rice, in
barely three minutes. The Philippine team also had the most number of participants out of
832 volunteers from over 10 sites globally.

The Philippine volunteers were propelled into action not only by the knowledge that they will
be part of history but more because of their innate desire to help. All meals packed during the
Manila leg will be distributed to families in Cagayan Valley and Benguet who suffered from
the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong last September.

“While I’m proud to be part of this momentous event, I am here primarily because I want to
help even if there is no recognition,” said Danni Fernandez, Head of Globe Office
Collaboration. “I am also overwhelmed because we were able to do a good deed and set a
record at the same time.”

Funds for the Philippine meal packs came from donations by 17,500 Globe customers via
their Globe Reward points that amounted to P1.1 million, and which was further matched by
Globe for a total donation of P2.2 million. Even after the Guinness challenge, the volunteers
continued to pack the rest of the over 22,000 meal packs that will provide 1,500 families with
sustenance for at least 14 days.

“While Globe works towards reaching its business goals, it also provides employees with
greater opportunities to help in the communities and marginalized sector of our country
through various means. Supporting Rise Against Hunger in this meal packing activity is one
way of instilling a sense of higher purpose among our employees,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe
Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

In 2017 alone, Globe employee volunteerism reached an all-time high of 3,803 unique
employee volunteers, comprising more than half of the entire Globe workforce.

Globe is an active supporter of RAH, which has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger
across the globe for 20 years. RAH produces healthy food packs for calamity response and
facilitates packing activities to enable large groups of volunteers to take part in relief
operations.

CONCLUSION

Globe Telecom has been a big company in the Philippines for years already. The
company is the first telecommunications company in the Philippines to be included in the
2016 Global High Performance Companies Norm, which comprises organizations with
exemplary financial performance and human resource practices. Many people choose Globe
Telecom over its competitors like PLDT because of their wide coverage of LTE services
nationwide.

Since 2015, Globe Telecom's debts and accounts payable have risen to a great
amount. Sales growth is strong, but its margin change worsened throughout 2016 and 2017
worsened. It's profitability on the other hand, is driven by a strong strong profit margin.
Globe Telecom has so much room for improvement in terms of solvency since almost all
ratios in this category are trending down throughout their performance in recent years. In
order to improve performance, Globe Telecom can reduce their debts, loans, and notes
payable as to lower the debt ratio and gain more profit through their great and fast
telecommunications service.

Globe Telecom has a promising outlook in the near future given that they keep up
their performance.
