Position: Food Service Assistant

PURPOSE OF POSITION

 Assist in maintaining a high standard of catering and presentation services in conjunction with the Service
Manager and residents.
 Ensure that dietary requirements of residents are met.
 Ensure that hygiene, food storage, food distribution and serving of meals are maintained at a standard that
adheres with organizational guidelines.

RESPONSIBLE TO

 Facility Management / Head Chef / Chef Manager

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

 Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in providing catering services for the aged.
 Ability to work within a team and demonstrated effective communication skills.
 Understanding of continuous quality improvement practices.
 Good time management skills.
 Knowledge of workplace health and safety, food safety and ability to comply with a food safety program.
 Ability to adopt a customer service approach in a large scale dining environment and develop excellent customer
relations.
 Experience in basic food preparation
 Demonstrated experience with presentation skills including dining room, tray and table setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist with the provision of the catering service to meet the residents’ food requirements in relation to hygiene,
food storage, food distribution and serving of meals.
2. Ensure that the quantity and quality of food is stored, distributed and served as indicated.
3. Assist in the preparation of dining rooms according to organisational guidelines.
4. Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored according to organisational guidelines.
5. Practice effective communication aimed at facilitating an effective work environment in the catering area.
6. Participate in continuous quality improvement practices.
7. Participate in the performance appraisal system.
8. Participate in the development and implementation of Quality Business Planning activities.
9. Work in a multi-disciplinary team being flexible within the scope of responsibility and assisting others.
10. Undertake any other duties as directed by the Head Chef and Facility Management.

Other:
1. Demonstrate at all times both sound understanding of, and compliance with, all McKenzie Aged Care How To
Guides, including all organisational reporting requirements allocated to the position ensuring they are achieved
with the scheduled due dates and timeframes.
2. Adhere to safe work practices.
3. Undertake any other duties as directed by the Facility Management.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent will undertake the role in a manner that demonstrates commitment to the positive resident service and
care of McKenzie’s, to the principles of working together and to McKenzie’s Mission and Cornerstones..

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK

This position requires a mandatory Australian Federal Police check to be conducted, if chosen to be the successful
candidate. Criminal History Checks must be renewed every 3 years.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience in providing catering services for the aged including basic food
preparation.
2. Knowledge in food safety and ability to comply with a food safety program.
3. Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety
4. Ability to work as an effective member of a team with good communication skills.
5. Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize work tasks.
6. Ability to adopt a customer service approach in a large scale dining environment and develop excellent customer
relations.
7. Understanding of continuous quality improvement practices.
8. Demonstrated commitment to working within the MACG cornerstones.
