3 The virgin womb that burden gained 6 O equal to Thy Father, Thou!

With virgin honor all unstained; Gird on Thy fleshly mantle now;
The banners there of virtue glow; The weakness of our mortal state
God in His temple dwells below. With deathless might invigorate.

4 Forth from His chamber goeth He, 7 Thy cradle here shall glitter bright,
The royal home of purity, And darkness breathe a newer light,
A giant in twofold substance one, Where endless faith shall shine serene,
Rejoicing now His course to run. And twilight never intervene.

5 From God the Father He proceeds, 8 All laud to God the Father be,
To God the Father back He speeds; All praise, eternal Son, to Thee:
His course He runs to death and hell; All glory, as is ever meet,
Returning on God’s throne to dwell. To God the Holy Paraclete.

Come, Thou long-expected Jesus 6

3 Born Thy people to deliver, 4 By Thine own eternal Spirit,
Born a Child and yet a King, Rule in all our hearts alone;
Born to reign in us for ever, By Thine all-sufficient merit
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
