In the present times, it is very important to focus upon the question “Are we really
Decolonized?” As per the standard beauty culture, still now, in the Modern Era of 21st
century, we find it hard to accept a dark skinned individual. It is not understood that it is just
due to the excess production of Melanin in their bodies. They are also humans & also
beautiful inside & out. Through ages it is been into a trend to set certain beauty stereotypes.
They are known as the “Standards”. These standards are made to be followed by the people,
especially women to appear attractive. Eurocentric beauty has always been given priority
since ages. White skin is considered to be more beautiful & attractive than the other global
complexions. Following this beauty standard, treatments like body bleaching & skin
whitening are in huge demand in the Asian countries. In the internet, if searched about
beauty, a white woman appears in the pictures. Similarly searching about ugliness comes
with a picture of a woman who is ethnically African. It is time that we understand beauty is
not a slave to the standards. Beauty is the quality, personality & character which make an
individual unique. Also it is important to consider the cross cultural beauty standards. It is not
always necessary for a child to be fair if one of the parents belong from a white background.
It is often observed that the kids of the cross cultural marriages are bullied in terms of their
appearance that does not satisfy the beauty standards. Decolonization meant freedom from
oppression. But the real question is when this beauty oppression will end. Women are not
puppets to certain stereotypical mind-sets & rules & regulations set by the society.
Irrespective of their caste, ethnicity & skin-colour, they should considered beautiful as a
human being in the first place.

When we read the story of Zaynab, the question asked in the passage hits really hard that is it
every time Islam that dominates the women? The fact revolves round the society. This lady is
an example of a strong pillar who has held her family after the death of her husband. She has
raised her sons to be Humans first & not men. She has taught them to be kind to all & offer
support whoever needs it. But the actual clash arises when it is seen that she has the same
dominated position in the society. It is not the religion which captivates a gender, but the
society does.

In the next passage, we talk of the Western Feminism. The chapter talk about the scholarship
rights & colonized discourses. As per the new set of laws women have full authority to be a
part of the political & educational system of the country. Citizenship doesn’t rely on ethnicity
& also the right to scholarship as well can be availed by all, irrespective of the country. The

ultimate aim of the passage is to promote education & literacy among the women so that they
can actively take part in the growth of the political & economic situations of the country.
