Cookbook of Possibilities
Working with the community plays a major role in HATO's brand value's. In 2015 the studio
worked with a group of students from Welling School, creating a practical brief that looked into
their culture, friends, school and home life. Over 3 weeks the students developed their own
publication, through type design, concept, editing and production, resulting in the Cookbook Of
Possibilities; a publication that helps them explore and think about their future and how to pursue
their creative interests.
During the project the students explored the characteristics of typefaces by designing and baking
bread letters; how the bread rises in the oven, grows and bulges outwards manipulating the
shapes of the letters. The project ended with a collaborative exhibition; 'Love letter to Typography'
in the school gallery as well as the final publication.
This Publication takes its cue from Parsons Bread Book (1974), an alternative yearbook made up
of final year design students' from the New York school's baking experiments.

Blocks Blocks Blocks – Chiaozza

Blocks Blocks Blocks conceptualises the relationship between form, matter and space in a playful
new project by New York based duo Chiaozza. Using carnauba wax crayons and textured
rubbings, this book imagines a new relationship between the artists, their artwork and the spaces
across each page. As one creates, the other responds. Some structures echo, others dismantle.
And so the process continues, evolving, changing, balancing across the book.
Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao are an American artist duo whose work explores play and craft
across a range of media, including painted sculpture, installation, collage and photography. Also
known as CHIAOZZA (pronounced like "wowza" or "yowza"), Adam and Terri have exhibited their
collaborative work in solo exhibitions in New York and Philadelphia, in numerous group shows
around the US, and in a variety of art and design venues internationally.

How it is - Nicolas Burrows

Nicolas Burrows' children's book How It Is... plays with concepts of sound and colour. It is a visual
sequence that uses bold, block images and playful language to reinterpret the world around us.
Nicolas's unique imagining of the natural environment lends fresh perspective on how we can
see, hear, touch and experience the everyday.
Nicolas Burrows is an artist, illustrator and musician from Lancashire, currently living and working
in London. His visual practice is concerned with formal aspects of harmony, improvisation,
composition and colour. Works are largely collage-based, incorporating printmaking, drawing and
assemblage.
Nicolas is also a member of Nous Vous, a group of artists & friends collaborating since 2007
across illustration, print design, animation, art direction & publishing.

Liquidity, Data Flows and Dirty Hands - Xavier Antin

This publication documents the workshop 'device for liquid image', led at l'Antenne du Plateau,
Frac lle-de-France (Paris), in April 2016. Participating artists include: Bartolomeo, Emmie, Ismael,
Gabriel, Lino, Matthieu, Nell and Virgile.
Xavier Antin is a Paris-based graphic designer and artist who experiments with large and small
scale models of production in print. Using standardised tools, Xavier re-appropriates their use to
develop new methods for creating distinct visual stories. liquidity, data flows and dirty hands uses
various ink colours and a standard scanner.

As part of the Beams T and Goodhood collaboration with renowned Japanese illustrator Ryo
Kaneyasu, we have designed and riso-printed this limited edition zine.
Ryo Kaneyasu is one of the most popular artists/illustrators based in Osaka, Japan. Kaneyasu
works across the fields of magazines, advertising and TV commercials.
