(1) c. 8

Step 1
We have been told that the length of one of the planks is 14 m less than 4 times the length of the other
plank. Therefore, if the length of one of the planks is x, the length of the other plank is 4x - 14.

Step 2
We have also been told that the length of the two planks put together is 26 m. Therefore:
Length of first plank + Length of second plank = 26
⇒ x + (4x - 14) = 26
⇒ 5x - 14 = 26
⇒ 5x = 26 + 14
40
⇒x=
5
⇒x=8

Step 3
Thus the length of one of the planks is 8 m. The length of the other plank = 4x - 14 = 4 ✕ 8 - 14 = 18 m.

Step 4
The shorter length out of 8 m and 18 m is 8 m. Thus, the length of the shorter plank is 8 m.

(2) c.

Step 1

(3) c. 8%

Step 1
2.4
2.4 out of 30 can be written in the fractional form as .
30

Step 2
In order to convert a fraction into percentage, we need to multiply it by 100.
2.4 240
So, the percentage form of the above fraction is × 100% = % = 8%
30 30

(4) b. 16

Step 1
Let us assume the age of Bella as x.

Step 2
It is given that Haliim is 8 years younger than Bella.
Therefore, Haliim's age is x - 8 .

Step 3
Bella is 3 years older than Imam.
Therefore, Imam's age is x - 3.

Step 4
It is also given that Arief is 5 years younger than Haliim.
Therefore, Arief's age = Haliim's age - 5
= (x - 8) - 5
=x-8-5
= x -13

Step 5
Thus, the combined age of all of them = x + (x - 8) + (x - 3) + (x -13)
= 4x -24

Step 6
The birthday of all of them falls at the same day, so the total age should be an integer. Therefore, total
age should be divisible by 4,such that total Age + 24

Step 7
Let us add 24 to all of the options.
By doing so, we can notice that only (16 + 24) is divisible by 4.
Thus, the combined age of all of them is 16 and hence, the correct answer is option b.

(5) c. 0.74

Step 1
Let us find the square root of 0.5454 by long division method.

5454
We can write 0.5454 as .
10000
Step 2
Let us now find the square root of 5454 by long division method.
73.85

7 54 54 . 00 00
+ 7 49

143 554
+3 429

1468 12500
+8 11744

14765 75600
+5 73825

1775

Also,√10000 = 100.

Step 3

5454 √5454 73.85

So, √0.5454 = √ = = = 0.74
10000 √10000 100

Thus, we see that the square root of 0.5454 is 0.74.

(6) 9 10

Step 1
As 0 is the additive identity, the sum of any rational number and 0 is the rational number itself, i.e.,

( + 0) = (0 + ) = , for every rational number .

a a a a
b b b b
Step 2
9 9
Thus, 0 + =
10 10

(7) 108000

Step 1
Length of the cuboid, L = 9 m
Width of the cuboid, W = 2 m
Height of the cuboid, H = 6 m

Step 2
Capacity of the tank = L × W × H
= 9 × 2 × 6 m3
= 108 m3
Since, 1 m3 = 1000 litres
Now, the capacity of the tank = 108 × 1000 litres
= 108000 litres

Step 3
Therefore, the volume of the water that tank can hold is 108000 litres.

Step 1
First let us recall the basic rules of representing rational numbers on the number line.

If the rational number(fraction) is proper then, it lies between 0 and 1.

If the rational number(fraction) is improper then, first convert it into a mixed fraction. The rational
number lies between the whole number and next whole number.

1
Let us use the steps above to represent on the number line.
2
Step 2
The rational number in the proper form. So, it lies between 0 and 1.

Now, let us draw a line. Take a point O on it. Let it represent 0.

From O set off unit distances OA and OA′ to the right and left of O respectively.

Step 3
1
As the given rational is positive. So, we move right from O on the number line.
2

Let us divide OA into 2 equal parts. Let OP be the segment showing 1 parts out of 2.

1
The point P represents the rational number .

(9) (1 − s + t)(1 + s − t)

Step 1
We know that

(a2 − b2) = (a + b)(a − b) … (i)

(a − b)2 = a2 − 2ab + b2 … (ii)

Step 2
We have:

1 + 2st − s 2 − t2 = 1 − (s 2 + t2 − 2st)
= 12 − (s − t)2 [Using eq(ii)]
= (1 − (s − t))(1 + (s − t)) [Using eq(i)]
= (1 − s + t)(1 + s − t)

Step 3
Hence, 1 + 2st − s 2 − t2 = (1 − s + t)(1 + s − t).

(10) 13824

Step 1

Let's write 24 3 as:

24 × 24 × 24
= 576 × 24
= 13824

Step 2

Therefore, the value of 24 3 is 13824.
