Reflection Paper: Good Citizenship Values

Being a good citizen specifically being a Filipino citizen is an entitlement we acquired since we
were born from this native land. And with that entitlement, lots of responsibilities and duties arises
which subsequently made our individuality responsive with the purpose of making not just ourselves
organized but our society as well. As a Filipino, it’s our duty to maintain peace and harmony between
our relationships with the society and its people. We share the same culture and country which means
we can’t detach ourselves from the consequences of being a Filipino. No man is an island thus unity is a
must if you want to survive from the hold of uncertainties.

In order to acquire a quality society, we as an individual should start the change within us. And
to start with the so-called change, we as a Filipino should possess a good citizenship values that will
empower our individuality to produce good actions towards the excellence of our nation. From the
declaration of the Preamble of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, it fully stated the entirety of our duty as
a good Filipino citizen and of the Government. We as a Filipino should exemplify a good citizenship
values to develop and promote a quality nation under the rule of law by means of truth, justice,
freedom, love and peace.

Moreover, there are these four significant values which denote good citizenship. The first one is
being “Pagkamaka-Diyos”, under this value is the strong faith we have in the Almighty God. Regardless
of our religion, we have the solely and Highly Creator who, we worship and praise with deepest
sincerity. With Him, we are always been protected, loved and blessed. And all we have to do is trust Him
with all of our heart and respect the life he gives. We should love our body and life like how we loved
and respect God. And to further develop the respect for ourselves, we should be orderly organized even
in the simplest things we do every day. And through that, respect, faith, and order will strengthen the
value of being Maka-Diyos. Above all values, being God-fearing is the most essential value we should
intensify for it carries and supported all the good values that are currently present.

Then the second value is being Maka-Tao. We should love other people like how we exert an
effort in loving ourselves. The love you have for yourself will reflect on how you treat and deal with
other people. Fundamentally, love yourself first before you love somebody else. Make your life
significant by sharing the love you created and nurture within you because it will be a waste living a
selfish and empty life. Also be honest and always seek peace and justice between your relationships
with other people. Help those who are in need with your unique way of serving them. Always seeks
honesty for it will strengthen trust and relationships.

Third is being Pagka-Makabayan or patriotism. Love not just yourself but the nation as well, for
it is a tool in shaping your individuality apart from your family. Serve your country like how you serve
yourself and God. Respect the law for it provides truths that will set you free from unwanted ignorance.
Always seeks equality and righteousness for it brings justice and joy between the people and nation.
And as a good citizen, be wise on putting officers that will mandate our nation. They control the
government might as well situate a deserving one.

And lastly is being Pagkamaka-Kalikasan. Nurture the natural gifts of God for it provides all of
our needs in life. From the luxury we possessed up to the land we lived in, nature is an essential blessing
from God we need to protect and cultivate.

From the aforementioned values, it’s indeed necessary to possess a good citizenship values for it
only brings goodness not just for the individuality but also in the society as a whole.
