Skills Analysis
The following form will help me understand the skills I possess and any skill gaps I may have.

Working effectively with others

(For example, on a group project or with children).

Keywords: approachability, teamwork, co-operation, rapport, adaptability

I am a team player and always ready for giving my suggestions as well as open to
others opinions and points of view. When working in a team, I understand the
importance of cooperation and having team spirit to get tasks done. If I am working
with others for a task and I am in a leadership role, I can be over-considerate
towards my team which can be a reason for not getting work done at times. So,
there is a bit of a skill gap in that aspect, where I need to develop the skills to
become a firm team player and learn to put my foot down sometimes.

Communication

(For example, expressing your ideas, explaining something complicated)

Keywords: listening, enthusiasm, clarity, pertinence, confidence

I can communicate my ideas well, both written and verbally. Throughout all of last
year, the assignments that I completed were well written and very factual. My
researching techniques became firmer and I became more experienced in writing
well structured documents. Also, in the case of verbal communication, I can
explain my ideas within a group of people I know or in my network, though with
unknown faces and a big audience I can shy away from doing so. To bridge this
gap, I have taken part in public speaking events and attended leadership events. I
was also a part of the FirstGive presentation last year so I was able to express our
ideas as a group as well as become more confident in speaking in front of a big
audience.
Judgment and decision making

(For example, choosing which assignment to do, which information to include in a

project)
Keywords: decisiveness, research, planning, reaching a conclusion, evaluation

I think I am a good decision maker and I consider all factors before taking action.
For one of the units last year, I was put in a team and was selected to become the
team leader. As leader it was my job to take decisions and delegate the right work
to the right person so that it would definitely get done. Also, there have been times
in the past where I have had more than one assignment to complete and submit,
on such occasions I have been forced to judge and decide for myself what needs
to be done first and prioritize the work.

Persuading and influencing

(For example, persuading someone to come to a party or accepting your

argument)
Keywords: communication, leadership, negotiation, charisma, motivation,
determination, forcefulness, vision, empathy

When it comes down to persuading and influencing others decisions, all I can do is
put the choices down and give them my point of view. Since I am not an autocratic
leader, I don’t impose my decisions on anybody and I’m not forceful. I am a
democratic leader and I am determined to get work done, so I make it a point to
delegate responsibilities and a task for every team member that I work with so that
they can feel a sense of responsibility too. Like I did while leading the team for a
unit last year.

Ability to solve problems

(For example, maths assignments, coping when team members don't pull their
weight)
Keywords: critical thinking, analysis, lateral thinking, creativity)

I am good at problem solving and pointing out potential problems in a project and I
did so when we were preparing for Dragon’s Den. When I find a problem, I try to
get to the root cause of the same so that we can solve it. I think of potential
solutions and contemplate how to fix the issue. During my work placement at
Anchor Hanover, I had to regularly communicate with my line manager to come to
find solutions to certain complex problems. However, choosing a solution can be
quite hard for me sometimes because I spend a lot of time contemplating before
taking the step. So, I need to work on that skill gap.
Time Management

(For example, ensuring your assignments are done on time)

I am an excellent time manager and that explains how my assignments are always
on time and of high quality standards. I am able to manage myself and complete
all tasks on time. I can prioritise my tasks and I am able to differentiate between
important and unimportant jobs. Last year, for one of the course units, I had the
experience of working with gantt charts and prioritising tasks within a project within
a given time-scale. However, I found that when I worked in a group the work
became very last-minute and we had too much pressure of getting the job done.
So, I need some practice of working towards this skill.

Use of IT

(For example, word processing a report, using a specialist package to solve a

maths problem)

I am competent with using Word and Powerpoint as I use it very often. At Anchor
Hanover, I used to type up reports and format budget spreadsheets to analyse
variances. Especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, I have become fluent with
the use of email and internet. It has forced me to become more proficient and
understanding of these mediums. Part of my skills gap is that I do not have a lot of
experience with researching online databases apart from the work I did for some
of my units for market research which involved looking at government websites for
researching business’s databases and accounts. This is something I need to work
on.

Achieving your goals

(For example, getting enough votes to be elected to a role in society)

Keywords: determination, commitment, will-power, resolution, stamina, ambition,
energy, resilience

I am determined to achieve my goals. For instance, at school during the elections,

I nominated myself to become the discipline officer, for which I needed people to
vote for me. I won the election and also won by a huge margin of votes which was
my goal, and I was successful at achieving it. However, now I have bigger goals
and they are set in short-term, medium-term and long term. I need to make sure
that I do everything to achieve these goals of mine and I work hard enough to get
to where I aspire to be.
Specialist subject knowledge

At present, I do not have enough subject specific knowledge other than Business
which I have learnt about at college. However, as I progress I am hoping to
specialise in Finance and to do so, I am needing to leave college with excellent
grades and get into LIBF to leave with 1st class honours. The entire process would
take me about 3-4 years and after that I should have specialist knowledge in the
subjects- Business and Finance.

In which skills can you offer plenty of examples where you are
using the skill?

There are a few skills that I have a lot of experience in. These include; teamwork,
project management, networking, managing myself, time-keeping, application of
IT, critical thinking, lifelong learning, career-management and mathematical
expertise.

In which skills do you have no evidence?

Having completed the skills audit, I have come to realise skills that I have no
experience in and the one that I need to be working towards. These include;
constructing arguments and presenting them to a range of audiences, negotiation
skills, experience of training or coaching people and the theoretical understanding
of moral propositions.
