REFLECTION PAPER
(Pirates of Silicon Valley)

The film Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999) is about the journey to success of the
people behind the Top 2 Tech Giants in the world right now—Apple and Microsoft.
Like the other renowned success stories that we have heard about, the founders of
these 2 momentous companies had also started from having nothing but big dreams.
And those dreams of theirs have essentially become part of our lives today. Their
stories are very inspirational, and here are some of the things that I have acquired from
their journey:
Courage: Big dreams are nothing if you do not have the courage to go after it.
Just like what the entrepreneur with $2B net worth, Wayne Huizenga, had once said,
“Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it
happen.” And that is the case for the founders of Apple and Microsoft. They have
devoted their lives in making their dreams come to life. They chased after it even if it
means sacrificing some things in their personal lives—like finishing their degree.
Trust: If you enter business, you have to be very cautious with the people that
surround you. Because you do not know if you can trust those that you interact with, or
if those who work for you have their loyalty on you. Just like what Apple did, who copied
the idea of a mouse-driven computer with a GUI powered by operating system from the
prototype of Xerox Alto. And later on, the Microsoft who stole information from Apple to
make their own operating system which is now the world's famous Microsoft.
Companion: I honestly think that Apple and Microsoft would not have been
made possible if its founders did not have their companion with them from the beginning
of their journey. It is pivotal that we have someone whom we can trust, someone who
would motivate us in times that we doubt ourselves, someone that believes in our
dreams as much as we do, and someone who would help us make it into reality.
It should be noted that I composed this reflection paper on Microsoft Word 2019
in my laptop which is being ran by the operating system Windows 10, while I listen to
music on iTunes in my iPhone 6 Plus to boost my productivity. Steve Jobs, Steve
Wozniak, Bill Gates and Paul Allen did not just make computers. They have made a
technological revolution that has changed the way we live our lives forever. And for that,
they deserve a special place in history for making such an impact in making our lives
more convenient through their innovations.
