Activity 1: Greatest Inventions

1. From the video presentation, which of the inventions you can't live without? Why?

Answer:

Electricity plays a huge part in our everyday lives. Whether it is at home, school, the
local shopping center, or our workplace, our daily routines rely heavily on the use of
electricity. From the time we wake up in the morning until we hit the pillow at night, our
daily life is dependent on electricity. The alarm we have to turn off each morning runs on
electricity. The light in our bedroom, the hot shower we take before breakfast. All these
things need electricity in order to function. Even our first meal of the day is heavily
dependent on electricity. The fridge that keeps all our food cool and fresh needs
electricity to run or the grill that cooks your bacon and eggs also needs power to
operate. This power generally (unless you have gas stove) comes from electricity.

2. What do you think would be a must invention should we have, to provide for our present
societal conditions? Why?

Answer:

For me, its Electricity. Electricity not only plays a big part in our daily lives at home, but it
is extremely important for all the things that go on in the world around us in our modern
life, such as industry that we depend on, communication as in form of radio, television,
e-mail, the Internet, etc. Transport is another aspect of our daily life that depends on
electricity to some degree.

3. Will you agree that through the applications of science and technology it could change
our way of life? Can you see any negative effect of this?If there are, please cite them.

Answer:

Yes, science and technology can make our lives easier, but with each benefit comes a
potential cost. We can still advance technologically without impacting society too
immensely by understanding these costs and minimizing them. There is a balance that
needs to be found between correctly using technology but knowing when to turn it off.
Finding this balance is in the hands of the people though and will ultimately influence our
society for generations to come.
4. From the video presented, what do you think the reason why these inventions created or
developed and there's still a continuing innovation at present time?

Answer:

As Edward Teller once said, “The science of today is the technology of tomorrow”. Here
are, we believe, the top 10 inventions that actually changed the world. The world, as we
know it today, is the result of a series of inventions that made living more convenient and
the world a safer and healthy place to live. Among all the scientific inventions, some
carry more significance than others because of their impact on the world.
