SECTION I
DIRECTED SITUATIONS
1. Write in FRENCH the information required for EACH of the situations given
below. Do NOT write more than ONE sentence for each situation. For some
situations a complete sentence may not be necessary. Do NOT translate the
situations given. Do NOT use abbreviations. DO NOT WRITE EACH ANSWER
ON A DIFFERENT PAGE.
(a) During one of your French classes your teacher asks that you write two positive
characteristics about your best friend. What do you write?
(b) You are completing an application form in order to become a member of a club
and you are asked to state two of your hobbies. What do you write?
(c) Send your friend a note inviting him/her to an event, stating the time and place.
(d) Your friend wants to know what you will be wearing to your cousin’s wedding.
Give two features of the outfit you will be wearing.
(e) Write a note to your friend apologizing for not completing a given task.
(f) You return home from school to find a note from your mother stating where she
has gone and why. What does the note state?
(g) Your teacher asks that you list two things that you are going to do over the
weekend. What do you write?
(h) You are asked to submit two improvements that you would like to see at your
school. Make two suggestions.
(i) You are feeling sad today. Send a note to your friend giving two reasons why.
(j) You leave a note for your little brother prohibiting him from doing something.
What does the note say?

SECTION II
LETTER/COMPOSITION
Use ONE of the following outlines as a guide to write EITHER a letter OR a composition
of NO MORE THAN 130–150 words in FRENCH. Use the tenses appropriate to the topic
which you have chosen.

2. LETTER
You are spending a term at a school in a French-speaking country. Write a letter to your French
teacher in your home country in which you
(ii) describe how the school is different from the one in your home country
(iv) explain how you will benefit from the period spent at this school.
(Do NOT write your real name and address, but include the date in FRENCH and use
the appropriate beginning and ending.)
Total 30 marks

3. COMPOSITION
You were at school one day when you lost a valuable item given to you by a close relative.
Write a composition in which you
(i) describe the item and state why it was given to you
(ii) explain where you were and what you were doing on the day you lost the item
(iii) describe how you felt and what you did upon discovering that the item was missing
(iv) relate what you will do in the future to ensure that a similar situation does not occur.

SECTION III
EITHER
4. CONTEXTUAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Use the following information to write an announcement of about 80–100 words in FRENCH.
Your school’s French Club is trying to raise funds for a tour to a French-speaking country.
Write an announcement giving information about the fund-raising activities for which you are
seeking the support of the student body.
Responses to ALL of the cues listed below MUST be included in the announcement.
(i) The reason for the activity and the sum to be raised
(ii) The frequency and type of events
(iii) Where the events will be held
(iv) Details of the most significant fund-raiser
(v) How students can help make the activities successful

5. CONTEXTUAL DIALOGUE
Use 80–100 words in the INSERT provided to complete the dialogue between you and the
caller by giving your responses.
You are working at the tourism office during the vacation and a gentleman calls to seek
information about your country.
Responses to ALL of the cues listed below MUST be included in the completed dialogue.
(i) Greetings and salutations
(ii) Ways of getting around the city
(iii) Places to visit in your country
(iv) Local dishes and/or cultural activities
(v) Advice on how to make the most of the trip
Complete the dialogue in the INSERT provided. The completed dialogue should then be
attached to your answer booklet.

SECTION IV
READING COMPREHENSION
6. Read the following selection carefully. Do NOT translate, but answer the questions
in ENGLISH.
Marie-Louise
Marie-Louise est hôtesse de l’air à la nouvelle ligne aérienne Caribéenne depuis deux
ans et aime bien son travail surtout pour le contact avec des clients et les voyages. De
plus, elle a pu visiter la Caraïbe et profiter des réductions sur des vols sur toute L’Europe.
Cette année elle compte aller à Londres pour les Jeux Olympiques.
Mais, Marie-Louise est très distraite. Elle oublie toujours les numéros des vols et
des fois même les destinations où elle va. Il y a quelques mois elle avait fait une belle
présentation de la Guadeloupe sur un vol pour la Martinique!
L’incident le plus embarassant de sa carrière lui est arrivé le mois dernier quand elle
a oublié des consignes de sécurité au milieu de sa présentation sur un vol vers la
Martinique. Quelle horreur!
Heureusement il y avait plusieurs passagers qui voyageaient souvent et qui l’ont aidée
à terminer sa présentation. Marie-Louise était très embarrassée et s’était promis de ne
pas permettre à cette situation de lui arriver encore une fois.
