Question 1

You have been appointed as an advisor to a task force that is responsible for driving
the implementation of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) in South Africa. Write a
narrative that answers the following questions:

1.1 How would you characterise the opportunities of the 4IR in the South African
context?
1.2 In what ways can the South African youth prepare themselves for the 4IR?
1.3 What challenges is South Africa facing that are affecting the country’s
progression as far as the fourth industrial revolution is concerned?
1.4 What advice would you give to company executives if they are to remain as top
competitors in an environment that is gearing up for the fourth industrial
revolution?

Question 2

The Fourth Industrial Revolution represents a fundamental change in the way we live,
work and relate to one another. It is a new chapter in human development, enabled
by extraordinary technology advances commensurate with those of the first, second
and third industrial revolutions. These advances are merging the physical, digital and
biological worlds in ways that create both huge promise and potential peril.

2.1 Identify and explain the key areas that are most likely to be affected by the 4IR
in South Africa.

2.2 What risks are associated with the fourth industrial revolution that the South
African community should be aware of?
