As I look forward to 2011, I reflect on Club Med’s history, which began in 1950 with the opening of
our first village in Spain. Soon after, we pioneered the all-inclusive resort concept. We now have
80 all-inclusive resorts in 36 countries.
With the recent celebration of our 60th birthday, Club Med continues to evolve in order to create and
deliver an upscale vacation experience for our guests. In the Americas alone, we have renovated five
resorts in the past five years: Cancún Yucatán and Ixtapa Pacific in Mexico, Punta Cana in the Dominican
Republic, Caravelle in Guadeloupe and Buccaneer’s Creek in Martinique. And this year will mark a major
milestone. We are thrilled to announce the renovation of Club Med Sandpiper Bay, Florida, the only
all-inclusive family resort in the United States.
Club Med Sandpiper Bay will re-open in December 2010, following a $25 million transformation.
Renovations include newly designed accommodations, revamped programs for little ones from infants
to teens, and new innovative facilities such as Kidz Village including a water splash park and a new
teens-only lounge. With 21 tennis courts, its own 18-hole golf course and access to 15 golf courses
nearby, a new in-resort training facility, and a 15,000 ft2. Spa and Fitness Center, the new Sandpiper Bay
will become our flagship resort for premium sports and well-being. Some of the world’s best coaches
in tennis and golf will be on-site leading our new Club Med Tennis and Golf Academies. This 216 acre
resort is conveniently located in Port St. Lucie, Florida and is the perfect place for short getaways or
longer vacations for families, couples, groups, or as a corporate incentive.
With 80 resorts worldwide, I wanted to share with you some of my favorites for 2011.
Best for Families: Ixtapa Pacific ( page 24 ) named Best Family Friendly Resort in Mexico by Travel Channel
and Top 10 Best for Families - Caribbean and Mexico by Trip Advisor.
Most Luxurious Experience: Cancún Yucatán ( page 22 ) and Punta Cana ( page 18 ). Both have 5 Trident
luxury spaces, which are boutique resorts within the resorts, featuring luxurious family suites with ocean
views, concierge services and special amenities.
Most Exotic Experience: Yabuli ( page 80), our fist resort and first snow village in China, and Sinay Bay
( page 84), our new 5 Trident resort in Egypt, located close to Israel.
Best Ski in Europe: Out of our 20 snow resorts, I recommend Peisey Vallandry ( page 44) and La Plagne 2100
( page 46) in the French Alps. They are both outstanding renovated resorts with an international flavor.
Best Island Paradises: Two very special secluded resorts - Columbus Isle ( page 26 ) in The Bahamas and
Kani ( page 76) in the Maldives.
