PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR SANITIZING FOOTBATH

INTRODUCTION

As the Philippines reached more than 11,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19

infections, wherein almost 800 lives were taken, it is still far from possible to return to
our normal way of life.
As scientist believe, even if the government “flatten the curve” of COVID-19
infection, still people will adopt to the so-called “New Normal” way of living. It means,
wearing face mask, practice of social distancing, and going through disinfection
procedures to be able to prevent the spread of viruses.
According to WHO, COVID-19 virus behaves like other coronaviruses and can
survive on surfaces for a few hours up to several days depending on varied conditions
(e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment). In this case, footwear
that are exposed in an infected surface can ideally cause the virus to travel from one
place to another.
One of the procedures that are being advised by the Department of Health is the
use of footbath soaked with disinfectant solution placed in entrances of building,
establishment, or office. In this method, footwear such as shoes or slippers are
sanitized, hence, preventing the spread of infection.

In this regard, the office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance
instigates the installation of Sanitizing Footbath to be strategically placed in every
offices and classrooms. This is in adaptation of the “New Normal” policy adhered by the
country to reduce cases of COVID-19 infection.
Footwear is another vehicle for contamination and if not properly cleaned and
sanitized, footwear can spread viruses. Through this sanitation procedure, exposure to
the virus is highly unlikely, therefore, lesser risk of infection.
Health and safety of employees and students are the utmost priority of the
Administration, hence, precautionary steps to contain this virus is paramount.
