Earth Cell-powered light, A practical Material for Road Stud Lighting

- Road stud to be installed on various roads in metro manila will be powered through electricity
that will be generated from the soil. Approximately 1.5-3 voltage of power will be generated
from the soil and will be used to produce 12 volts that will power and LED bulb. Target samples
will be soils that are high in organic carbon content but has lower pH to generate higher voltage
and charge. These lights will be useful for lighting the dark roads of metro manila, preventing,
and lessening the rate of vehicular road accidents. The prototype will be designed to withstand
a certain temperature and will be totally waterproof. It will also be designed to power the bulb,
just after sunset. During daytime, the prototype will be storing charges from the soil. And on
sunset, the system will automatically send power to the bulbs to light the studs. Further study
could also help this Earth-Cell be used for powering streetlights. This will benefit the community
for providing lighting by just using soil.

Enhancing concrete properties with the use of Crab Shell (Carapace)

- Commercial concrete will be strengthened by powdered crab carapace. Crab carapace is rich in
calcium carbonate. A component that will help the concrete fill the voids between cement
grains. And will also accelerate the hydration process and affects the workability. Calcium
carbonate will behave as an inert filler. With the CaCO3 being finer than the rest of the particles
in the concrete, it will behave as a nucleation site for the cement hydrates precipitation. Due to
this, the setting reaction and strength development usually become faster. It will also affect the
mechanical properties, etc. This material will be environment friendly and practical. Crab
carapace will always be available from restaurants or public markets, so there will be no scarcity
for Calcium Carbonate production.

A Comparative Study Between Commercial Concrete and Fiber Reinforced Concrete Consisting Animal
Manures ash

- The team will be conducting a study that will give a deeper analysis and understanding on which
will be the best and economical concrete to be used for construction. The comparison will be
between the available commercial concrete and an Animal Manure Fiber reinforced concrete
that will be accomplished by the team to be used for various testing. This study aims to prove
that by adding fiber to the cement, it will be sturdier. The fibers are used in concrete to control
cracking due to plastic shrinkage and to drying shrinkage. Fibers also reduce concrete’s
permeability. And will also reduce the bleeding of water. It will not just be a fiber from any
manufacturer, animal manure fiber will be used for environmental and economic reasons. This
study will benefit the concrete manufacturers for innovation of materials economically. And will
also add strength for building structures.
