Purpose / Reason for revision: Servicing procedure
Engineering Support Status: Open
Applicability:

A320 Family aircraft

Reference / Documentation:

AMM 12-12-29
ISI 29.00.00021

Description

Some operators are complaining about recurrent need for hydraulic reservoir servicing.

Consequence

Most of the time, such reservoir level adjustment leads to delays because of maintenance
check at the gate.

Investigation Status
Hydraulic fluid quantity is not compensated in temperature and flight crew request for
maintenance even if the fluid quantity can be considered as normal in accordance with 12-
12-29 AMM task. Indeed previously mentioned AMM task requests mechanics to adjust the
fluid quantity in the reservoir depending on temperature but this fluid quantity offset or
adjustment is not visible to the flight crew at the hydraulic System display page.

Mitigation / Interim Plan

Maintenance Information

It is recommended to follow AMM 12-12-29 procedure with regards to hydraulic reservoir

filling and take into account fluid quantity adjustment according to OAT.

Repercussions on A/C Operations

Delays

Permanent Solution

It is planned to integrate temperature compensation of the hydraulic fluid quantity

indication with introduction of EIS2 S17 expected to be available by Q4 2020 via MOD
166491. This display A320 family will be equivalent to the display on A330 aircraft.
The green band on the right side of the white line will be moving up and down according to
the fluid temperature. The green brand will also be extended from the upper limit by 50%.
This modification will allow the flight crew to identify the real fluid quantity level in relation
to fluid temperature and prevent hydraulic servicing request.

On top of this, Airbus introduced a modified placard on the ground service panel door to
further advise mechanics on the need to adjust the fluid quantity depending on the fluid
temperature. This placard PN D93370709398 includes a graph (or chart) to accurately
service the fluid quantity according to the temperature and is introduced by MOD 166546.
Based on the above, Airbus introduced new servicing procedure in AMM 12-12-29 to better
take into account the temperature parameter during servicing. Indeed, it will be requested
to:
- Record temperature as per ACMS or laser temperature reader
- Adjust fluid quantity as per AMM
- Fill the required fluid quantity

It will be possible to disregard fluid temperature recording if the corresponding hydraulic

system has been run more than 3h ago. In this case, OAT can be considered as equivalent
to hydraulic fluid temperature.

AMM procedure has been updated for Feb 2020 revision.
